I'm in a pretty awkward situation right now at the barbershop that I've been going to for over a year now, the barber that has been cutting my year for over a year was on vacation so I had one of the other guys give me a haircut and he KILLED it. I'm loving the haircut that he gave me even more than the person that I have been going to regularly. Normally this would be no problem and I would just switch my barber but since they both work at the same shop I don't know how to tell the barber that I usually go too that I'm going to be switching to his coworker. It's just a really awkard situation to be in because I usually don't even have to say anything I just walk in and my barber calls me over, when this happens next am I supposed to tell him that I'm going to be having ____ cut my hair today instead of him? How the am I supposed to do that without insulting him. Was wondering if any of you guys have ever been in a similar situation and if you had any advice on how to handle this without making this awkward and insulting the guy.

Well. Hm. There's no good end to that.
I usually have this same chick cut my hair but there are only two barbers and we all know I just go to her.

There is an episode of Seinfeld that deals with it.. and yeah, it doesn't end well.
Do their entire schedules overlap? Maybe one day like a Sat-Mon is different.
I had to change barbers and its a bit awkward cause the guy who used to cut my hair works in my shopping center and he's noticed I stopped coming and has commented on it. Sorry bro. You started being hit and miss.

Am I cursed with mediocre haircuts for the rest of my life or do I need to just balls up and make the switch? Lol

I guess I like to think I would balls up and say, "hey, would it be a problem is john cuts my hair?" If he's a reasonable person he'll say sure.. and if they argue when you're gone... That's not your problem.

Bleh, I'm just gonna have to go ahead and do it next time I go in lol.

I've been going to the same barber shop since I was 2.
I'd say play it off and tell your normal barber the new guy tried something different while he was gone and you liked it.

That's tough. And why I also shave my head. Well, not really I shave my head because my hair is thinning and it saves so much money. But still Bash's idea is probably the best.

Bash kinda has it. Makes it so it doesn't really seem insulting. I have switched barbers a few times as I grew up. Two different ones until I hit like 15 and started going where my brother went. There were two cousins in there that would cut our hair. It was just a case of who had an opening next. It was cool to have both as they were both good. Except one liked to talk on the side so it took a bit longer.

Idk how it works with guys but I go to a salon because I feel you get a better haircut and have a wider variety of what the stylist can do and I like styling my hair. I always got it cut by one girl, she just knew how to cut my hair. Occasionally she's been busy and they've said another person is available but I told them id wait for her. Now have in mind I know all of the people who work there too and they really don't care if I tell them I'd rather wait till the one girl is available

You know boss, for these guys, hair (and community) is a passion, not just a job. Just respectfully ask him if it would be ok if you use the other guy, as you really liked the new spin he put on your haircut last time. The gentleman would be delighted to let that happen. For them, it's not about their own ego, it's about a good cut, and making you happy. Much love.

I did this when I was a kid, it was 2 women though. It'll always be weird, especially when you are waiting for your new guy & the old guy has an empty chair. He'll get to see just how long you're willing to wait - instead of letting him cut it anymore. Honestly, you can be nice & go somewhere completely new all together, or hurt the guys feelings every time he sees that you don't like what he does. I use the same lady once I moved to Texas, but it's gotten far too expensive...so idk what I'll do now.

Haven't had to deal with that, but try to see if there's a way to go in while only one of them is working? Or say that you'll have Guy #2 do it because you spoke last time and promised, lost a bet, whatever. Whatever you do, don't do this:

There's only one clear solution...THUNDERDOME!!!
Seriously though, I'd call the new barber and let him know you'd like to switch to him. I'm sure he'd do everything he can to make sure it's a smooth process.

I love the fact that my friend comes to my house & she cuts my hair for me, just to avoid things like this. I think you'll just have to be upfront about it.
