A new report suggests that Daniel Bryan could be out another three months. Deadspin's David Shoemaker posted the following to Twitter:
David Shoemaker @akathemaskedman Follow I'm hearing Daniel Bryan needs Tommy John surgery and will be out at least 3 more months. 12:24 AM - 21 Aug 2014
Bryan has previously said that he has more arm strength loss than they expected and could require another surgery, so this may confirm it. Tommy John surgery is a UCL reconstruction most commonly done on pitchers due to their use of a particular muscle group. However, the average rehab time for Tommy John surgery is a year, with elbow excercises not able to begin until over a month into the recovery. Thus, whether Shoemaker's report of the recovery time is accurate or not isn't certain.

Like a week ago, Bryan himself said he might not need the second surgery. Of course that could have changed, but I'm taking this with a grain of salt.

Bryan said last week that if he has the surgery, it's a three month recovery, but his doctors aren't sure yet whether he needs the surgery. They keep changing their minds.

Though he may have to get another surgery, which is horrible, I believe once he returns, WWE could use this to their advantage. From a kayfabe standpoint, have The Authority be behind it all. Maybe they paid the surgeons off to keep him gone longer than expected. It sounds better in my head than typing it out than reading it on a screen, but they could have so many stories to tell off of this.

A tear in his UCL would explain why he isn't regaining strength in his arm I suppose and why his rehab isn't working. Given his grappling and submission style for more than a decade, this also makes sense for how the injury could have developed over time.
I don't know where they are getting 3 months though. I only know people who have had TJS due to baseball injury but you're recovery doesn't really have a timeline. It's a gradual recovery where the tendon builds strength over time and it's a little different for every person from what I understand. He can't just have the procedure, rehab for a few weeks and then start training hard again to get back in shape. He's going to have to rebuild his strength, regain his shoulder motion and assuming he's not any pain he can begin normal training again. He isn't going to need the full mobility a pitcher would need in a throwing arm but he still has to go through that process and then get back to where he was physically before the injury. I think this is going to take time and saying 3 months is crazy imo, assuming we are talking TJS here and that is really the issue.
It's really just awful that it has taken this long for them to figure out the issue with him. It's bad enough that he is hurt at all but he keeps getting more-and-more bad news pertaining to his injury. I'm sure he is going stir crazy at this point from not being able to do what he loves. I definitely miss seeing him and I want him out there, but I want him to be fully healed so he can enjoy the rest of his career once he is back.

Let's not freak out yet. Is it even his pitching arm?

that sounds like a joke...
i know for pitchers it's a year before they can come back from TJ, but thats also because they are throwing a baseball 90mph, might be less for a guy like Bryan.3 months seems like not a lot of time for that kind of surgery.
at this point Bryan should fix everything that is wrong with him, go home....relax and heal to 100%...not 90, not 95...100% he could take a year off and have another 10 years or he could come back in 6 months and have to retire in 6 years with more surgeries.
Point is....he should fix what's wrong and not rush it.

It would explain why his arm is so weak. It'd be much better for him if he needs Tommy John instead of a mother neck surgery.
Regardless, WWE should keep him out of the ring until Royal Rumble. There's no reason to rush him back right now.

Oh yea, he needs another surgery so we should call his career. He's never coming back. Pitchers take over a year to recover from Tommy John Surgery, but Bryan would need three months. Everyone who believes he will be back is stupid.

Hopefully the internet still treats him like God's last gift when he returns and there is no shortage of people reminding everyone he is the best person alive and so down to Earth.

Damn it, Brie! You couldn't satisfy him enough so he had to use up and lose all his arm strength!

At least it's not more neck problems.
If it were neck related, I'd say there was a good possibility he'd be done. Remember, they forced Edge into early retirement because his constant neck problems were leading to lack of feeling/numbness in his arms.

As a huge D Bry fan I want to see him get to 100% before he returns. If that means he's out for longer then so be it. Ideally it would be great if he can get there by the Rumble, but if not make it the Elimination Chamber. Make him a surprise entrant and give him the extra month. You've also just made that PPV much cooler and anticipated. Actually, make him a "surprise" entrant, then leak to the media that it will be him. Get more Network subs out of it.
