A week or so ago, right around the Nuegent racist thing,I saw Ted Nuegents interview on That Metal Show. It was one of the funniest episodes of the show imo. And as a fan it got me thinking, does an artists personal beliefs, etc. affect your enjoyment of them?

Only if it affects their work which in turn will make me like/dislike them.
Kanye West is a pretty good example of that. Over the past few years he's becoming a self-centered, cynical, bunghole and it comes off in his music. He used to be one of my favorite artists College Dropout, Late Registration, and Graduation are some of my favorites; even My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy was good but somewhere between that and Yeezus he changed and it affected his work.

Not as much anymore. When I was younger, if they said/did something I really detested, it was hard for me to give them the same love. Now I just want people to speak their minds, and change the world. If they say something I think is a lie, or against my views, I just show people the other side. Still got love for them though.

Gee, I wonder where you got the idea to make this topic. Shut it you But to answer your question, no. Professional and Private lives are two separate things to me. Ted is a good example. His professional life he's an incredible musician, a multi award winning artist, somebody whose music made my childhood (basically all classic rock did but you get the point) and I have bought his albums before. He's great. His personal life, hes a gun toting, slur spitting, bleeding heart conservative who I cannot stand. I don't mind conservatives, but when you spew blatant racism, act like our president is the antichrist and out to sell our country to Islamic extremists, it's kind of irritating. It's even more irritating when they are blatantly racist and they say "I'm not a racist". Dude, you just used a racial slur and said stereotypical things about a race. You are a racist. Sorry for ranting, but it's true.

I agree about Kanye....I really enjoy his early stuff -- I even loved 808's & Heartbreak (less after I realized he stole Kid Cudi's style far, far too much for that album & it seemed less original & unique to me) The new music really is impacted by his self-centered, delusional mind & I don't find anything positive about it **The things he says though...his belief about being a genius, telling people not to talk...anger issues...make it where even if the music was still amazing, I wouldn't give him my money or time I can accept if an artist has different opinions or views, but can't support someone that acts the way he does toward others or what he's said

Not at all. I like my favourite artists for their music, not who or what they believe.

Occasionally. I try not to, but as Demolition cited with Kanye, it can be difficult sometimes. Scientology is one that really gets to me sometimes. Tom Cruise makes great movies, but it's really hard to forget all the wacky Scientology things he has said and done. When I find out an entertainer is a Scientologist it is very disappointing. John Travolta, Laura Prepon, Juliette Lewis, Beck, Jason lee, Kirstie Alley, Nancy Cartwright (voice of Bart Simpson), GIovanni Ribisi, and very likely Will Smith and family.
Sports-wise I used to be a major fan of Chipper Jones, but after following him on twitter have come to see what a jerk he is.
Madonna has become such an awful person now that it really has impacted how much I enjoy her classic music, and I was a very big fan.

I always liked Charlie Sheen but when he had his famous 'meltdown' he became even more badass to me.

Personal beliefs? No. Personal actions? Absolutely. Half this. Most artists don't have your average mindset or belief structure.. So to dislike an artist because of their belief is terribly small minded and shallow.. And if you wanna get down to the nitty gritty you'll shut ALOT of great things out of your life with that mindset. Personal actions also can damage, but time also heals.. Everyone who is human makes dumb mistakes in life, and they damn sure aren't under the media microscope when they do it.. BUT, someone who continues to make stupid personal actions again, and again, and again.. I won't write them off, but I'll look at them different.. I'm a hard person to offend, but I'm also a hard person to please.. Blatant stupidity is one thing I will not tolerate. Kanye marrying Kim Kardashian is one thing that made me look at Kanye in a different light.. Mainly because he contradicted himself.. "I hate media, they cause drama, I hate having my life looked at under the microscope, blah, blah, blah".. Yet he purposely had a kid and married the biggest media whore since Marilyn Monroe, and brought in a ton of predictable drama.. Nowadays I listen to Kanye, but I don't listen to Kanye.. I'm not going out of my way to read his opinion on worldly matters or life.. Because even though he's extremely successful, he's terribly arrogant and egotistical. And alot of famous people are, but none are as blatant and contradicting as him. But in my honest opinion, I think Kanye lost his mind a few years ago.. I'm not even kidding, I think he actually went insane.
