I have a VCR, a CED player, a Laserdisc player, and an HD-DVD player. I don't know why, but I have an interest in dead video formats; I'd really like to get a Betamax and a D-VHS (with D-Theater) player eventually, but they're a bit pricey.
BTW, if you haven't heard of D-Theater, it's pretty interesting. It was the first HD video format in the US, all the way back in 2002, and it's amazing to think that this kind of high-quality footage came from a VHS tape:

I haven't used my VCR since around 2002. So I guess not. I prefer DVDs

I don't even have any videos anymore. I seriously didn't think there were this many people who still owned VCRs.

I have a DVD VCR combo and lots of cassettes but rarely use it. I'm always way behind on technology. I have a laptop and just got an ipod touch this year. I've never owned a cell/smart phone yet. I had an old Curtis Mathes VCR like the one pictured below from the 80's that was still working up to about 5 years ago.

I still have 2 VCR's and a DVD/VCR, but have not used the VCR's within the last year.
I also have a an 8 track car stereo on a slide mount and a home stereo that plays records and 8 tracks. You can even record off the radio or from an album onto an 8 track.

Every once in awhile. Mainly to check out all the stuff I taped off TV back in the day and old wrestling tapes.

I haven't actively used my VCR since 2009. I still have many VCR tapes that were put in boxes storaged away, at some point, i'll have to rummage through them.

Haven't used mine since around 2004. I just don't get how you guys can go back to watching really crappy resolutions, when we're approaching 3840 x 2160 resolutions; which have four times the resolution of your standard 1080p HD.

You can buy an HD version of pretty much anything that has even had mild fame. With streaming and the WWE netowrk, it just doesn't seem efficient at all. With video games, a lot of classical games aren't remade and are left in their original form on their original console. Two different topics.

Its the same reason people would rather play old games on old consoles and not play HD Remakes or play rereleases on newer consoles or play online. They want to play the game how they originally played it on what they originally played it on. People like to watch movies on what they originally watched it on. A lot of classic wrestling shows, and sometimes even movies and TV Shows, either aren't remade or are redone or redubbed to the dismay of people who wanted the original, and are left in their original form on their original format. Same thing.

Ahh. My sweet spot. I planed on actually making a thread about so called dead entertainment mediums, soon, but you beat me to it. I am a VHS collector from way back, but my love of the format has recently come back to the forefront after reliving memories with the dvd documentary (irony, I know), Rewind This! . I still have over 200 tapes, most with original cover art, some clamshells, but no longboxes. Granted, my collection is nothing compared to a lot of folks, like T R W, but I love them. First, the resolution of VHS, is not that far from DVD, and DVD for me, not far from Blu-Ray. Our tv's may go to a certain resolution, but that does not mean that these formats utilize them, yet. I have to get my CRT tv back in the house, so I can watch some vhs. The hd tv's make the vhs picture look bad, due to the nature of the pixels, I believe. I have not watched many VHS, in a while, due to that reason. But, I digress. Next, nothing can beat the old vhs art. The paintings, the mashups, the photographic arrangements, etc.; but mainly those gorgeous paintings. A lot of people talk about the feel of the tapes, the smell, etc. bringing back memories of being in the video store, popping in those tapes, and having these experiences for the first time. Like you all say, a lot of vhs movies have yet to be released on other formats, or are butchered for one reason, or another. It turns out, if you are trying to find a movie you cannot remember, from an old vhs trailer set, that sometimes the same trailers are nit on dvd. Too, remember going down the isles, looking at all the covers, seeing what is new, and chatting with the staff and customers at your local video store. I, luckily, still have one in my town, so I can go, but others have lost this beautiful experience. For some, this was an easy way for us introverted folks to meet like minded individuals. The video store was a place of happiness and comradery; a safe-haven, if you will. A magical place where learning and dreams collided. I forgot to talk about the detractor, sound. I know the sound can be bogus on these tapes, but sometimes it adds to the aura. Tracking is bad too, but that also depends on the machine played, the cleanup machines added to fix it. If we had no vhs, the shot on cam movie look, like Jupiter Landing, "The Rock" would not made his movies (not dwayne ), and many folks would not have either. It gave people ability to make their own realities. Dreams were, and still are made by vhs. And, VHS tapes are still being made. There has been a resurgence in the past few years to "resurrect" old formats, fanzines, cassettes, etc. There are still specific companies releasing horror movies specifically on VHS. Cool note: Lunchmeat is a printed magazine recently started about vhs horror. If I did not feel like I had lamented enough, Dante style, I would go further into cassettes and local musicians, magazines/fanzines and the preferred style of reading, and so on, but that is for another post. If you all want to remember the vhs fondly, watch "Rewind This!", and "Adjust Your Tracking". God bless VHS! VHS_Lives aka VPV If you have searched for movies you cannot remember the name of, you may know that first nom de plum.

There's a place right around the corner from me called Wastewise and they've got all sorts of various household stuff and knick-nacks and in one section, they have all sorts of used VHS movies for .25 cents each. Lots of good ones too. A part of me wants to buy a bunch for my movie collection, but I've already had them and sold them a long time ago. I have the majority of them on DVD now, so it's kinda pointless buying them on VHS again, even if they are .25 cents.
It's just sad seeing them sit there for SO cheap and still nobody is buying them. 25 cents is a friggin' STEAL compared to what they were priced when they were brand new.
Earlier on today, the VHS movies I picked up were: Aladdin with original clamshell case, Return of Jafar with original clamshell case, Ghostbusters with clamshell case, Ghostbusters 2 with clamshell case, Halloween, Dumb & Dumber, a screening copy of Scream, and various videos on The Titanic.
You guys are right on one thing, the artwork on VHS movies is awesome and is arguably better than DVD or Blu-Ray. The bad thing with VHS tapes, is the room they take up. If you've got a lot of them, then you'd better have some room because they WILL need it. Ha-Ha.
I think I may just go back tomorrow and pick out a few more VHS tapes, just for the hell of it. Can't go wrong for .25 cents each, that's for sure.

I don't.
I got rid of them along with DVDs when I upgraded my entire movie collection to BluRay.
I would buy one again to watch old home movies my dad has stored away in his garage though.

Right as dvds were comming out I was buying up lots of Coliseum Video tapes. Rumbles and Survivor Series mostly, so I would never get rid of my VCR.
