So I'm coming to NY in January (2nd-7th) and was wondering if there are any events happening then such as NFL games, MLS games, WWE events etc? Tried a quick google search and couldn't find much, but thought you lot would know better!
Also, where are good places to go in the NY/NJ area? We're staying right beside Times Square so will be going to TRU. Want to go to the Cake Boss bakery and Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash(love The Comic Book Men).
It's also my dad's 50th on January 4th and we're trying to find somewhere to take him/something to do, any help?

Once the Times Square ball drops, there isn't much going on in New York City. It remains to be seen if either the Giants or the Jets would make the playoffs. I can tell you, the Cake Boss Cafe on West 42nd Street & 8th Avenue is rubbish. I've had some of their stuff, wasn't too thrilled. If IHOP is your thing, there is one on East 14th Street just off of 2nd Avenue. I can't think of much more off the top of my head right now.

Well the MLS will be over then, NFL will be in playoff mode (and unless one of the NY teams make them...and we're essentially down to one) but the tickets for playoffs cost around the amount of a decent used car.
If you're a foodie there is a sh*t-ton there. Depending on the weather, Central Park is a viable tourist option. The problem with going anywhere in the middle of winter on vacation is: it's winter. Ya know? Especially since you're coming right after the holiday festivities.
But it is the Big Apple. Surely you guys will find something Ben.

Plenty of homeless people to talk to with some amazing stories. Mostly spoken in confusion and gibberish but amazing nonetheless.

You really need to go to Top of the Rock at night. It's ing amazing. I still remember walking out of the elevator onto the observation deck and just being blown away.

Cheers guys! Looks like a sporting event is out of the question then Well I mean, are you into Hockey or Basketball? The Rangers, Devils and Islanders will be playing for hockey in the NJ/NY, and the Knicks and Nets will be going in basketball so if you are interested in sports, those are always interesting games.

Was mainly interested in NFL or MLS but with MLS being off and NFL costing $$$ they're both out the window But I look at hockey very similarly to soccer, just smaller and with sticks. But with the NFL the problem also is there is no guarentee that either of the NFL teams will make the playoffs. The Jets certainly won't...they're terrible. Giants could but there's no certainty so early in the season.
