The best of the Austin/Rock WrestleMania trilogy. I remember watching WrestleMania X-Seven recently and thinking that people had overrated it but I was dead wrong. Along with TLC II, this is a five star match. It's one of only two WrestleManias that I could think of with two five star matches, the other being WrestleMania X. Anyway, this is an absolute classic that always has me on the edge of my seat.

Such a brilliant match.......my God both men gave 110%. then it was ruined with that ending. It kills me to even talk about it.
My favourite Rock vs Austin match remains IYH: Backlash 1999 followed closely by Raw the night after SSeries 98.

It was a great match, but the ending was kind of dumb.
The Orton/Cena feud could never come close to this. The fact that it wasn't something we seen a million times, made it that much better.

God, Jim Ross and Paul Heyman did a PHENOMENAL job. Hearing Jim's voice in the background while Austin is commentating gives me goosebumps.

I highly recommend watching this match as you listen to the podcast. Gives you better context as to what Steve Austin says. If anybody thinks this was a five-star match, you are sadly mistaken. This match was more of a three-star affair. After watching this match again, Austin/Rock from WrestleMania X-Seven wasn't a good match. Want to see a good Austin/Rock match, their Backlash 1999 and WrestleMania XIX encounters were better than their 'Mania X-Seven encounter. Looking back, this match had a very anti-climatic finish.

After watching this I had to go back and watch the whole PPV, and it reminded me why it solidified my status as a wrestling fan for life & made me want to be a pro wrestler.

the build to the match was epic. everyone loved stone cold or the rock, but everyone had a preference out of the two and to see the two biggest names going head to head...
STILL pumps me up.

if you want to show someone a match that is a definition of "main event" then you show them this freaking match. yes the ending was far from great, but everything leading up to that was what a Wrestlemania main event should be. I may get some heat for this, but I honestly think no other match and I am talking about Hogan vs Andre, Hogan vs Savage, Warrior vs Hogan, HBK vs Bret and all the rest had the main event feel this one did. Watching this live, as soon as Austins music hit you just knew you were watching something that truly meant something and was important and that the crap was about to hit the fan.

Austin-Rock third take will always be my favorite.
I hated the finish at WM 17.

One of my all-time favorite matches and one of the best Mania main events. Sadly that dumbass ending with Austin turning (which made no sense) ruins it for me. Nevertheless I could watch that match every day and not get bored.

All 3 matches are great to me, no way can I pick a favourite match.
Based on hype and buildup, this match takes the cake for me, you had My Way, the whole Debra angle and the two biggest stars of a generation, pure entertainment at its best.
Either this or CM Punk vs Lesnar is my favourite promo ever, gotta love Million Years plus both versions being used.

While I do feel that Backlash 99 was their best, WMX7 is their second best, yet it's my favorite just because of the atmosphere and the build up. Ending could't have been worse. However, Their WMX9 match cannot sniff their others. While, I'm obviously thrilled the Rock won act 3 and I loved the Hollywood gimmick, saying WMX7 was a 3star match and 19 was better is insane. Each guy did one offensive move in the entire match, outside punches, kicks, and their finishers. Austin did a side-suplex and Rock did a spinebuster. ONE EACH. And it's obviously because there wasn't a whole lot physically Austin could do. We didn't know that at the time.
Rewatching the 19 match, you can now see/hear how bias JR's commentary is towards Austin having knowing what took place just the night before and being at the hospital with him.

The whole show, and this main event, were the peak of wrestling for me. I was a seventeen year old kid at the time, life was pretty good/easy, and a lot of my friends were also into wrestling. Great time to be a fan.
The build to the match was kind of mixed. The Debra stuff was awful, but Rock doing the stalking/Rock Bottom fakeouts on Austin was awesome. I remember me and my friends copied that for a while. The sitdown interview was gripping, too.
Loved the Austin heel turn. Was never a fan of his babyface run, I always preferred The Rock and as mentioned, I was a teenage kid at the time so I was deep in my "the superman babyface sucks and doesn't have enough moves and is overpushed" phase. Hated WrestleMania 15's ending for that reason ("Austin wins lol"), and so Austin changing his character was great fun for me. It's weird, I now enjoy a lot of 1998-2000 Austin stuff and I find most of Rock's big babyface run embarrassing to look back at.
The match itself was epic. The ending doesn't hold up as much, because of how slow the turn was I think. I remember even friends at school who weren't fans wanting to borrow my tape of it.
I actually watched the match a couple of days ago with the Austin commentary, it was uploaded on Dailymotion with the podcast on it but I guess it's been taken down? I can't find it on there now.
