wgntv.com/2014/10/23/77-sears-kmart-stores-closing-5300-jobs-cut-all-before-christmas/This is horrible. Im surprised that they would close the stores before Christmas. I always thought Christmas was when stores made big profits. It's sad because many people will lose their income right before Christmas. Personally I take these closings to heart because Kmart was such a big part of my childhood. I remember as a kid my parents would go to the Brick Yard Mall in Chicago, the only indoor mall in Chicago. My mom would often take the trip just to shop at Kmart. I would spend some time with my mom as she shopped around before I would get permission to go look at the toys. I remember one day while at Kmart I noticed they blocked off a section of the store with plastic tarp. I remember trying to peek through the tarp to see what was going on back there. Then on the next trip the section was open, it was a Little Caesars. I was so excited, I didnt know it was even possible to have a store inside of a store, it was a new concept for my young mind. From there on when my mom would go to Kmart I knew eventually I would be getting some pizza and pop. And then another break through, the Little Caesars put a cart near the entrance of the Kmart with Pizza slices. They would sell a slice for 1 dollar. I loved it. This is a memory from my childhood. Since then the mall has been torn down, but still when I see Kmart it always takes me back to my childhood. I love when I see Little Caesars in a Kmart. I usually go buy something just to relive the memory.

Couldn't care less about Sears or K-mart as stores, but it's pretty terrible that so many people are going to lose their jobs around christmas

Don't really shop at either store but hearing that people are losing their jobs always sucks. I've been laid off and I know how it feels.

It's never good to see someone lose their job, I remember Sears being a part of my childhood. I'd beg my mom to take me after she came home from work so I can buy some Megaman figures they had. I also had my dad buy me the Dudley Boys (3D Attire) too.

Had a Kmart in the next town over from me that I would go to a lot. That ended up closing down and they turned it into a Sears which also closed down a few years ago. Now it just sits empty.
It's kinda sad because I remember back when I was younger, Kmart always seemed to have the best Classic Superstars figures.

Don't worry, it'll continue to be WWE Fan Central! Good luck finding one though! And prepare to be disappointed!

Yeah I'm kind of with the "it sucks that people are losing their jobs" group, but emotionally I'm pretty meh on it. I kind of hate Sears and Kmart holds no emotional attachment for me.

I've been saying for years that Kmart will soon disappear... and some idiot in another thread thought I was crazy...

I went to K-Mart a ton as a kid in the 80's but I am still shocked that they are still even in existence. I only know of one that is within 100 miles of me. The last one in my town closed over a year ago, and every K-Mart I have been in since the 90s has been dirty, cluttered, disorganized with awful workers. I feel for anyone losing a job, but how K-Mart even is still in business is a complete mystery to me. And the same with Sears to a slightly lesser extent.

The bad one around here closed a couple years back. It was filthy, disorganized, I never found a rare toy but what it wasn't in the floor kicked and smashed in on the other side of the toy aisle. The employees were a-holes except for this one really nice guy who used to be at the local target. I was surprised to see him there (Kmart). He has since been transferred to the Sears in the mall. That is usually a strong indication when a company finds the room to place someone rather than release them. He was a shining beacon and exceptionally friendly and helpful amongst a store full of dullards. This was the store that featured the only employee dense enough to ask me "Are these for you? Do you play with dolls?". Never felt my blood boil as bad as it did there.
The point? Bad employees will exist everywhere, but when there are stores which seem to only be staffed by rude fools, one has to wonder. If hiring practices are this poor and stores go under, it seems to be a case of hindsight being 20/20. Do you think Kmart and Sears, given the option would try to change many of the things that plagued their stores such as poor employees and dirty disorganized shelves?
It is funny to see this particular Kmart being the host store for Spirit Halloween this year.
Also, the other Kmart in town is fairly clean and tolerable. Nobody is a jackass that works there, but they aren't exactly friendly. So while this store is okay, I have almost never been addressed or made eye contact with in all the years I've gone there.

They just can't compete with the growing online market. I don't think retail will ever completely fade away, but this will continue to be a growing trend in the years to come, which will drastically effect a lot of people in the low income to middle class range. It's pretty sad, but it's also tougher and tougher to justify driving around town spending the day looking for the latest WWE Elite figure when it can be had for retail (or less in some cases) online and shipped free right to your door.
The age of the physical hunt are drawing to a close...
