Wth are you thinking ... Scalpers would have a field day and you'd end up paying 5-10 times the retail for something you want ...

Buy the McFarlane Statues if you want limited numbers.

I guess if you buy figures to make a profit it would be cool to know so you can add how limited a figure is in you eBay listing while you're jacking up the price. That's what always bothered me when I use to spend a lot of money on kicks. The supply was so limited that if you wanted to pick something up you would at times have to go to extremes to get them. I would hate to have to camp out at Toys r Us for hours to pick up the new *Limited* Hulk Hogan figure, or have to be up at 5am logged on to RSC to hopefully be able to order the next RSC Exclusive. The way it is now is perfectly fine.

I wouldn't want the DM Hogan to be produced at 2500 pieces

Rarely are action figures of this type limited.

I collect tons of stuff between toy lines, sports memorabilia and I hate looking for chase items that I want. This. It turned me away from Marvel Legends, Selects, Black Series.... Its 2014. We don't need chase figures. Because all 1,500 of them will end up on ebay for $200. I'd rather everyone have a chance to get a figure.

No!! Not at all! I live in a small town with just a WalMart, and have a 40 minute drive to go figure hunting, and have enough trouble finding some of these figures. I don't want to limit the amount of them and make them harder to find.

Wow, I can't believe it happened again, and on Figs no less. The worst idea ever. I thought at least 5 years would've passed before something overtook the last one.

I enjoy having rare items in my collection like prototypes weird stuff from other countries and very old things, but some items have to be commonly available to make those things rare. All current stuff sold at retail should be easy to get your hands on. You've got store exclusives which make those items a bit more limited that items sold at all the retailers and then you've got online exclusives that are even more limited. 1500 pieces randomly dispersed across the various retailers worldwide would make that item virtually impossible to locate. Some states may never even see one of those. That would be every scalpers dream but would benefit mattel in no way at all. It really wouldnt benefit anyone but those 1500 lucky people and the bloodsucking scalpers.

All figures are limited edition, they don't just make them forever, releasing a limited number eg. 1500 will ONLY increase the sky high prices some sellers TRY and sell certain figures for, if it ain't broken, don't fix it!

I agree the hobby is expensive...I'm not saying change the price just limit the number of some of the series Have you ever been to Costco? Do you understand how business works? If Mattel makes 500,000 John Cena figures (I'm just throwing out a number here) it will be less expensive than if they produced 1500 of that same figure. It's called mass production and it goes to mass retail. So if Mattel was making what we can only assume to be smaller quantities of figures then the price would inevitably have to increase or Mattel as a company would either lose profits or at the very least break even. Basically, Business 101 states that if the number produced goes down the price must increase. This is why a lot of people buy in bulk.

I understand what you are saying but as others have pointed out it just wouldn't work.
I will add this: I collect Marvel Legends and during the Toybiz heyday they had the variants which were produced in smaller quantities. This provided something fun for us collectors to chase. This example worked because Marvel Legends were THE collectors market figures back then and huge sellers. Decreased interest and increased cost has shrank that overall market, however. Presumably the number of units produced on those old toybiz chase variants is probably higher than a standard production run on a WWE figure, which stands as a favorite brand in action figures. Hell, regular Marvel Legends are hard enough to find now without there being any chase figures anymore. There are shortpacks but that isn't the same at all.
When Mattel started in 2010, they did have belted chase figures but they said those would not be coming back, that they were incentivizing their figures to try and win more of an audience. Jakks loyalism has all but died now, so they have less to worry about, but in 2010 the Jakks fans were spitting venom.

I was just using those figures and numbers as an example. I would just like to see Mattel put out a few figures that are limited release. I don't want all the elites or any other series to be limited. It would just be cool to have a few figures that were limited.

I agree the hobby is expensive...I'm not saying change the price just limit the number of some of the series You don't understand how money works. Mattel would make a loss on selling 1500 of a figure at retail price. The price would have to be bumped up considerably for a sale of 1500 units to be profitable. It's a terrible idea. It doesn't do anything for Mattel because they make a loss, and it doesn't do anything for consumers because we get an elite series that's limited for no reason whatsoever. The only people it does anything for are scalpers.
