Depp's the same way, man. It probably has to do with the fact that neither guy really challenges themselves anymore (Depp only plays outlandish characters with annoying voices that wear dumb hats and Smith has only been in like 3 movies in the last six years, including the terrible one with his son and a really bad MIB 3). Will Smith definitely needs this crossover more than the Jump Street guys do.

Depp's the same way, man. It baffled me when I found out Will Smith was Tarantino's first choice to play Django.. If we have poor perception of him it's mainly because of the decisions he's made.. Will Smith might have a good amount of fame and money, but he has not made good career decisions and his brand has slowly declined over the years. Will Smith I believe has Oscar ability.. And has mostly wasted his dramatic talent.

I think there's a point in the industry when people (especially men, historically) reach a certain point...they don't HAVE to be challenged, or challenge themselves. We all know superstars in films that get this way. It's the John Cena syndrome, man. Your performer gets comfortable at the top, and people keep paying to see them. Why mess with success? Which is weirder for Depp, than Smith, to me. Because he used to go out of his way to throw the audience curve balls. Now it's just Johnny Depp AS _______. Meh. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of both. But I do think Smith needs a movie to reinvigorate public interest in him. I'm STOKED for Suicide Squad, because of this. Talk about a ballsy move by Smith, and I hope it pays off for him. Whether I think he's right for the role, or not. Ehhh. But, it has potential. I do think it was EXTREMELY dumb to pass on ID4 2...just me, though.
