Greetings all. As a massive Nu Metal / Rap Metal fan, I was wondering if anyone else on here listens to it, and who they dig. Also, does anyone like the genre enough to help me make a list of all NM/RM bands (US, canada), including local only releases that most do not know about? It is just an idea I have been kicking around....
I digress. When the genres started to get big in the late 90s/early 00s, it was a pivotal time in my adolescent/early teen years; that anger and confusion of youth. I ate all of it up that I could find. The Limp Bizkit, Korn, Flaw, Papa Roach, Cold, Staind, Kid Rock, Slipknot, Mudvayne, Coal Chamber, Linkin Park, Everlast, Cypress Hill, etc.... all the way to more obscure bands that I have found more recently like Twisted Method, Depswa, Phunk Junkeez, Endo, Skrape, Slaves on Dope, etc. Some like DoubleDrive and Injected are more hard rock, or like Static X who Industrial-esque, but in the same frame of mind.
Who are/where you fav bands and why. Any good memories of getting the cds/cassettes, waiting for midnight release parties, going to shows, etc.?
I would like to, please, keep this on the positive side of things;this music, and these memories, are very meaningful to some. The genre gets dogged more often than not, and it really stinks for those of us that truly found peace in that music. Thank you all so much, and I cannot wait to see the responses.

Anthrax did it first, Anthrax did it best.

Big fan of Korn. My favorite album is Untouchables but I also love Follow The Leader and especially Issues. I'm not liking their newer dubstep stuff. It's like listening to good songs with 28 layers of crappy sounds over them.

I was into it big. Loved and still love Linkin Park. Saw them in concert two years ago and they performed a fair amount of Hybrid Theory and Meteora, making the show unforgettable.

Isn't Rage Against The Machine and Limp Bizkit considered Rap Metal?

Quite like a lot of the bands you have listed. Not massively into many of them though. Going to see Slipknot/Korn live next month. Looking forward to that!

I'm a huge SiriusXM fan. They seem to be one of the last bastions of rock radio, but I've also been looking into some of the streaming services. Xbox Music is absolute garbage. Spotify is good. I haven't had it long. Really the main thing I like about it is that they have a couple obscure bands I'm into - The O and gONNA gET gOT. The service is alright though. Rhapsody is good but I can't get it to work on my phone for more than a hour our so, so I can't get a good feel for it. Overall, for my money, Sirius is the best. You can even get an online or app only plan that's on par with the premium process for streaming services. Otherwise, I'd suggest Spotify. EDIT: I also tried SoundCloud and didn't care for it. I know this isn't what the thread was supposed to be about, but I figured I could add more to it talking and where to get new music.

I'm big into my physical copies mate so I usually buy a lot of CD's. Failing that it'll be a digital copy or borrowing music from friends.

In that case I recommend Slipknot's newest album, The Grey Chapter. It's easily their best ever. I'm also into In This Moment.

I can respect where you're coming from vampiroporvida; though I'll admit the genre is far from my favourite, I acknowledge how important it was in establishing a sound that kids of certain ages dug around that time...my brother being one of them. I've always dug Rage Against The Machine; a true pioneer in music - period. 'Bring The Noise' by Anthrax is where I believe it all began in terms of a true clash of styles with rap and metal. My brother is a big Nonpoint fan too, if you've heard of them. Cheers bud.

Rage is good....One Day as a Lion is pretty cool too. Anthrax threw down the gauntlet, with Faith No More too; though I think it was expanded on with these bands. It is the music of my childhood that I will always love. Rock on! \m/ VPV Side note: HU should definitely get some mention for taking the genre to a new generation. I have not heard much from them, but their look is killer. Edit: theMOESIAH Its all about the music man. Those services help to teach of new bands from genres you dig. I do wish more indy artists were there, but, maybe one day. Like Himmy! my cds/cassettes/vinyl are my lifeblood. I will never give them up. No better sound. Killer artwork. That physical movement of popping it in.... priceless. Much luv to all for commenting.

Follow the Leader is still my fave from them though. not sure if Deftones are under the "nu metal" category but damn they are by far the most creative and consistent bands out there from that era right now. Limp Bizkit had a few good tunes too, Wes Borland is always entertaining!

My favorite band is COLD(hence my screenname), without my best friend & their music, I wouldn't be breathing today. 5 songs off top my head that i listened to over the holiday 5 Outerspace 4 Happens All The Time 3 Ugly 2 Feel It In Your Heart 1 Bleed
Also a fan of Staind, Limp Bizkit, older Linkin Park & Slipknot. Used to listen to Korn, haven't in a few years, i'll have to dig untouchables & follow the leader out soon.

Endo, FLAW and Twisted Method are some favorites of mine. Ozzfest 2003 was my first one and immediately fell in love with the genre.
Such a shame of Andy's death and Twisted Method seemed to have just accepted not touring anymore. Makeshift never did anything, then the reunion of Twisted Method never really went anywhere either.
Endo are currently doing local shows at bars and have written some new material... but nothing that sounds like Songs for the Restless. Not a big fan of the new stuff.
FLAW are also doing local bar shows and are apparently working on a new album. Doesn't appear like much is going to of it, though... especially with the very recent departure of Chris Ballinger earlier this week.

Lot of people probably don't count him, but I think Tech N9Ne crosses rap, and rock, quite well...and frequently, at that...
