Saw this over at NFL.com, but one of their writers thinks that WWE maybe pushing Reigns intent illy down our throats to catch lightning in a bottle twice. Rock was pushed down our throats and the fans turned on him, perhaps this is what WWE is doing with Reigns.....unfortunately it then goes onto to say that he would probably just be fed to Cena.
I could see this let Btyan or Ziggler knock off Lesnar, and then you still have a new guy in Reigns who is a bad guy to take the belt, later if Rollins doesn't take it before then.
I don't think that's what they are doing but just food for thought.

I can't imagine Reigns as a heel at this moment. I could be wrong, but every road points to Reigns being a mega face, be it winning the rumble or facing a guy like Rollins or Rusev at Mania. There's going to at least be a shot to make Reigns a face, if it doesn't work adjustments might be made but I can't see it.

that is a really bad way of getting heat, as you're risking souring your audience to not only that competitor but the whole product.

What Rock are they reffering to? Rocky Miavia was a natural thing. The people hated the gimmick. They then ket Rocky be The Rock and thats when sonething organic blossomed.
Corprate Rock or Hollywood Rock? Maybe.
Reigns has a fan base. Turning him heel like that would mean that the IWC boo, while the vast majority of the audience cheer, like Cena's reactions.

I don't think that's what they are doing but just food for thought. This idea incorrectly implies a few things: 1. WWE is capable of planning further than three weeks ahead. 2. WWE knows what to do with anyone on their roster. 3. WWE knows what their fans want to see. (And I don't include the causal fans in this because they have shown that they will cheer for literally anything) |

I could see that potentially working but they should just try out the face thing and if it doesn't work, they can turn him.

Id like him either way, he seems more like a face though. Faces can cut less promos and that's whats best for business

Reigns and Bryan double team Rollins but all of a sudden the authority comes down throwing every superstar in the ring to try to eliminate Reigns and Bryan. The two men fight side by side defending the ring and cleaning house. Rollins is eliminated... fans are cheering... and among the chaos Bryan turns around and BOOM! Superman punch to the jaw, Reigns laughs, tosses Bryan out for the win.

Roman Reigns will not be allowed this creative freedom so even if he is the most charismatic guy in the world he will still have to act and say what the writers tell him to.

This is true, but just to add: when The Rock was first introduced as Rocky Maivia- a gimmick I hated so much I did not get a permanent hard-on for his Target Exclusive Elite Flashback figure- it was a gimmick given to him designed to make him a huge babyface star, but it got so much to the point that people turned against him, The Rock went with his instincts and became such a natural heel. Roman Reigns is not being saddled with an overbearing gimmick so where does he go should he become heel? He seems like he's trying to be his natural self now. What this thread doesn't realize is that The Rock went from playing a goofy ass cartoon character ala Barney the Dinosaur to someone more closely related to himself. Right now, Roman Reigns is trying to be himself so where does he go? WWE is going to have a problem on their hands at Wrestlemania if Roman Reigns wins the Royal Rumble and isn't accepted enough by then because he could be given the Batista treatment like last year with Daniel Bryan. Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar could be like when Brock Lesnar fought Goldberg. Seth Rollins- arguably the biggest and best heel in all of WWE right now (if not all of pro wrestling) could come out and cash-in on Reigns, thus ruining his Wrestlemania moment, but instead of being booed the crowd could actually cheer for Rollins. There are a lot of "what ifs" in place right now that WWE needs to address before doing anything too drastic. I'd be far more interested in a Bryan-Rollins WWE Title feud post-Wrestlemania, but I think that's just part of what makes the Royal Rumble match itself (Sorry you stumbled through that, Roman) interesting because Reigns was once the inevitable win and now I have to watch hoping that Daniel Bryan wins instead. |
