So my wife and I were watching ECW Barely Legal 97 on the WWE Network for a low monthly price of $9.99 and she looked at me and said Lesnar vs Taz would be bad ass. So this got us talking about current superstars that would be a great fit in ECW. My first three were Ambrose, Harper and Cesaro. Hers were Wyatt, Rollins and Miz(only to be caned to death by the Sandman).
So who could you see as great fits in the original land of extreme?

Literally anyone. With a few exceptions (basically RVD and the guys who went to WWF/WCW), the ECW roster sucked -- and Paul E found a way to hide weaknesses and emphasise strengths so they got over. Assuming he was still doing the same, then yeah, everyone could fit there. From Fandango to Bull Dempsey (who is basically Taz) to Titus O'Neil to Justin Gabriel, anybody could be a success in ECW terms.

Kevin Owens would own ECW.
The Miz would be an amazing heel for ECW.
Harper would do pretty good, he fits the typical ECW look with a lot of added skill.

Harper and Punk immediately come to mind. I don't agree with Sweaterrrrrrrr too often, but yeah, pretty much anyone would work in ECW. Though TBH I think if current day Cena went to ECW he'd be given the Doink treatment.

Paul Heyman's greatest strength while running ECW was that he is fantastic at hiding weaknesses and highlighting strengths.

Heyman answered this exact question on his ECW special on the network and his answer was Lesnar and Cena since they are both money machines.

The funny thing, is NXT has alot of ECW traits. The main own, is stars going to WWE and being buried. The Assenssion will be the first to take this. I don't know why they changed their gimmick. Why add a Egyptian Warrior gimmick to a team that had an established look and style? There are a handfull of guys that wouldn't have madr the roster in ECW. Heath Slatet Hornswoggle Khali Santino Kane Undertaker Ryback ( would have lasted long enough to have a Mike Awesome run, and then would have been purchased by WWE/WCW) Goldust ( he would have been chased off for his gimmick alone) John Cena ( see Ryback) Honestly, the upper card to mid card would have been bought out, or, would never have given ECW a thought. The better question, would be, What gimmick would today's WWE stars have had in ECW?

I would have loved to see Daniel Bryan in the ring with Little Guido, Tajiri and Mikey Whipwreck. I always enjoyed the matches with good wrestling in ECW more than the hardcore stuff.
The Usos and Dust Brothers against the Eliminators or Impact Players.
Kurt Angle would have been good.
Those are just fantasy matches though. Heyman could have taken anyone from WWE and made them good.

When I think what if ECW continued, I always picture ROH. Mixed with a few NXT stars and a few main roster guys, it could work very well.
