Thought this would be a fun discussion since I watch a lot of top 10 lists on YouTube. So what were some of your favorite games this year? As a Nintendo guy myself, my list is mostly Wii U and 3DS titles. I'm interested to see what everyone else enjoyed this year. Since I'm going to, you can include remakes and extended editions on your list. My personal top 10 list:
10. Captain Toad's Tressure Tracker (didn't play much, but the very little I did was quite fun) 9. Bayonetta 2 (would probably be higher, but haven't got to play it much) 8. Hearthstone 7. Hyrule Warriors 6. Guacamelee: Super Turbo Championship Edition 5. Shovel Knight 4. Zelda Windwaker HD Remake 3. Mario Kart 8 2. Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire 1. Super Smash Bros Wii U/3DS

Not sure if I played 10 good games in 2014 actually. But I'll try:
10- 9- Disney Infinity 2.0 8- Pushmo World 7- Costumes Quest 2 6- Hyrule Warriors 5- Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire 4- South Park: Stick Of Truth 3- Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze 2- Mario Kart 8 1- Super Smash Bros. For Wii U/3DS
Captain Toad would have ranked high for sure but it didn't come out here until 2015.
I didn't play Bayonetta 1/2 on Wii U yet, or Shovel Knight but they may have ranked if I'd played them. The Bayonetta demo was pretty great.

Dragon Age Inquisition is # 1 for me by a mile and nothing else is close.
Honorable mentions to Sunset Overdrive, Mario Kart, Child of Light, Shadow of Mordor, and Wolfenstein.

Last of Us Remastered has been my favorite, followed by Final Fantasy X HD, and then probably TR Remastered after that. I really haven't played anything else I thought was great. I still have Watch Dogs and Aliens in the wrapper from black friday though. I especially want to get rocking on Watch Dogs, but I'm replaying FFX now and want to play my ps1 downloads of 7 & 8 over after that. So my PS4 is collecting dust haha. I'm playing a little FC4 and a little WWE15 still when I get time I guess, but neither really have me locked down.
Uncharted 4, FF15, a Metal Gear longer than 20 mins, Batman, these are all things I need to happen this year to make up for 2014, which was a transition year at best. I've honestly played my PS3 twice as much as my PS4 since buying a PS4. The PS4 is great and all but the games are lacking severely imo.

1. Infamous: Second Son 2. Shovel Knight 3. Freedom Planet (Highly recommended. This game is to the Sega Genesis as Shovel Knight is to the NES) 4. Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes 5. Sunset Overdrive
And that's about it. I figured I was going to be a bit more optimistic about this year, but nothing interesting really came out. Smash Bros. would be on there, but I don't have a Wii U yet and am still kind of dragging my feet on getting one. 2015 seems like it will be a better year for me.

5. Hyrule Warriors 4. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze 3. Mario Kart 8 2. Bayonetta 2 1. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
I only bought these fives games last year. So long lasting, I didn't have time for any others.

By the way, I recommend you try out Costume Quest 2, you can get it on the Wii U eshop, we have a very similar taste in games so I'm sure you'll absolutely love it.

I just watched gameplay footage of Costume Quest 2 on YouTube. It looks fun. I will consider downloading it.

I know we're in 2015 but I'm still probably going to need more time to do this properly. I got so much Wii U game contenders in the last two weeks of December & I barely got to explore some of them. Like Tropical Freeze (only played the first two levels I believe [plus the demo levels at Gamestop]) or Bayonetta 2 (only played the demo, I decided to go through the first game first though, probably going to abandon that idea). I also only got to play two Shovel Knight levels. Not saying these won't make it on my list but it's very subject to change. I. Smash for Wii U (duh) II. Shovel Knight (I didn't need to play more than two levels, it was love at first shovel thrust) III. Hyrule Warriors (it's really fun & I still haven't played as half the characters [partly because I'm not terribly far in the story (haven't even unlocked Zelda yet & she's my favorite [demo])]) IV. Smash for 3DS (would be higher but it's kinda invalidated by the Wii U version [maybe it should be lower]) V. J-Stars Victory Vs. (Story mode was absolutely terrible but it's the only game the lets me play as Gon, Killua, Joseph, Goku, Vegeta, Yusuke, Hiei, Medaka, etc.) VI. Mario Kart 8 (It'll probably be toppled by Tropical Freeze but duh) VII. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure All Star Battle (Great representation of the series while fun to play on it's own) VIII. Bayonetta 2 (Demo was super fun & it has an arwing section) IX. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (I'm still bitter about them Sonic-fying the water segments) X. One Piece: Unlimited World Red (I needed a tenth game & this is okay so far, really only dealt with the Battle Coliseum though) 1. Infamous: Second Son 2. Shovel Knight 3. Freedom Planet (Highly recommended. This game is to the Sega Genesis as Shovel Knight is to the NES) 4. Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes 5. Sunset Overdrive And that's about it. I played the demo ages ago (okay, it feels like ages ago). I had a lot of fun with it though. Is it Steam only? *Edit* By the way, I think I'd already change the order of my top ten :/.

As far as I know it is Steam only. There may be a DRM free version out there, but I know I bought it off of Steam. And I would have liked to put J Stars up there, but I've had no means of playing it. Thankfully, it's getting that surprise North American release, so me and my brother are getting ready to kick ass as Goku and Kenshiro.

There hasn't been a game released this year that's grabbed me.
P.T. AKA Silent Hills I guess.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is probably the game released this year that I played the most. I'll make an actual list later.

Of the games released in 2014:
Shadow of Mordor (PS4) Dragon Age: Inquisition (PS4) GTA V (PS4) Final Fantasy X HD remaster (PS3)
Earlier releases: GTA V Online (PS3) dominated most of my gameplay time during the year. I managed to put in another 150+ hours into Skyrim (PS3), and I think I'm close to finishing the main story in Tomb Raider (PS3).

I forgot to mention The Wolf Among Us. Thought that was really good. I wasn't sure if that counted or not since the first episode was released in 2013. Otherwise I would have added that to my list as well.
