Grand Theft Auto V
Far Cry 4
Destiny
Super Smash Bros (Wii U)
Mario Kart 8
Shadow of Mordor
Watch Dogs
Infamous: Second Son
Wolfenstein: The New Order
The Last Of Us: Remastered
I still need to play-through Dragon Age (which I own, but haven't gotten past the prologue yet). No new games really blew me away last year. GTA Online and Destiny were the best time I had with a game, mostly due to the amount of fun I had online with my friends. Destiny is still severely flawed though, and I've stopped playing it altogether, meanwhile GTA is still just another remastered game from 13. Super Smash is great, but unless you've constantly got friends over, it doesn't get a lot of play for me (same with Mario Kart, both are still perfect games for their respective genres/purposes, though). Shadow of Mordor was a lot of fun.. for 15 hours or so. Replay value was terrible for me. Infamous: Second Son was the first true current-gen game I got to play, and it was great at the time, but not very memorable. I enjoyed playing TLOU for the first time.. but I didn't love it like so many others. Plus, like GTA, it was just remastered. Wolfenstein had an incredible story and tight game-play, but the replay wasn't there (similar to Mordor), and it could've used multiplayer pretty badly. I think my favorite single player experience of 2014 was either Far Cry 4 or Watch Dogs, honestly. Watch Dogs wasn't the game it was supposed to be, but once I got past the hype factor, I liked the idea of basically being Batman with guns. I never got to play Far Cry 3, so Far Cry 4 was entirely new to me. To say I loved playing it would be an understatement. The story wasn't great or anything, but the gameplay was so much fun and I loved how it looked (especially during the trippy, drug-induced stages). I still need to play the multiplayer mode and mess around with the map editor.
It was a fun year for gaming, mostly due to getting to try out my new PS4 hardware. But it was definitely lacking in new, original AAA titles, and the ones that did come out were pretty broken.
