Hey guys,
A short while ago, I just finished watched this clip on YouTube of the entire WWF Brawl For All fights and it was pretty enjoyable. It wasn't all that bad. I've seen worse in wrestling.
It was interesting to see how these guys fared in fights such as these. If you have the time, you should watch it in completion.
But yeah, as a whole, I think the overall idea of the WWF Brawl For All was a bad one. You had guys getting legit injured and even knocked out cold in a few cases. It just wasn't a good idea all around.
Apparently, one of the main reasons of doing the Brawl for All was to get Dr. Death Steve Williams over as a serious threat and then have him go on to face Stone Cold Steve Austin, later down the line.
That did NOT go according to plan. Dr. Death was victorious over Pierre Oulette in the opening bracket of the tournament and looked pretty decent, up until he crossed paths with Bart Gunn. "Bodacious" Bart put a halt to the Dr. Death hype-train when he knocked his ass out cold.
Here's an interesting clip which has an interview with Pierre Oulette:
And here's Jim Cornette's opinion on the Brawl For All:
Here's a longer interview with Pierre Oulette:
Once Bart won the Brawl For All tournament, he was hyped to the moon and even put into another fight at WrestleMania XV against long-time "Toughman" boxer Butterbean. And disaster struck yet again when Bart "The Hammer" Gunn got demolished in the first round in about 30 seconds.
I was such a schmuck because I remember saying Bart would beat Butterbean and would kick his ass and all that and WHAM. A vicious knockout later, boy did I feel stupid. LOL.
What are your guys' opinions on the WWF Brawl For All?? Did you enjoy it?? Were there any picks you wanted to win, but didn't??

Bart wasn't hyped to the moon after winning Brawl for All. He had one hardcore match where they used bananas, then disappeared for several months, reappearing for the Butterbean fight and then disappearing for good. He may have had one other match, but he came out worse than he went in and he went in pretty bad off.

The worst part is Butterbean apparently offered to make it a pro wrestling match or what have you and let it be a work, but WWF said "no, no, the rest was real, let this be real too!"
And the rest, like Bart Gunn's career, is history.

Jim Ross saw to it that Bart (who did get over thanks to the BFA after knocking the Doc out) was quickly off of TV for 7 months.

Should've just never had it happen and gave Doc a monster push instead. Maybe have a few "legit" matches with Shamrock or something, but even without the knowledge Doc wouldn't be able to handle Gunn the Brawl For All was a bad idea.

it was really stupid to put pro wrestlers in an environment where the outcome was out of their control....particularly when they had plans for Dr Death......the mind boggles really.

If they didn't make steve Blackman withdraw, I think he would've won easily. He destroyed Mero with perfect takedowns and didn't throw any punches. He looked bored out there, and if he started throwing hands he could've ruined somebody.

Exactly, he was the only one that seemed to have a strategy besides blindly throwing haymakers. I would've liked to see him fight some other guys in that competition.

Blackman probably would have creamed Bart too.

He looked bored out there, and if he started throwing hands he could've ruined somebody. You are also forgetting Dan Severn. He did participate in the Brawl For All and defeated the Godfather. Here is an excerpt from an interview Severn did last year: The full interview can be found here:

Several wrestlers have talked about what a legit badass Steve Blackman was and how he could've killed anyone.

Several wrestlers have talked about what a legit badass Steve Blackman was and how he could've killed anyone. Hardcore Holly wrote in his book quite a few times how Blackman was legit and could kill people if he wanted to. He also said Blackman was actually training for the Brawl for All when he found out he was in it because he wanted to win so much. He then got injured and withdrew. So many guys got injured, it was ridiculous. Savio Vega didn't ever come back. Dr Death should have just been given a push without the help of a needless tournament. Because Bart Gunn wasn't supposed win, they had no idea what to do with him.

Bad business decision from day one. Ruined Dr Death, who I always believed to be a legit tough guy.

Bad business decision from day one. Ruined Dr Death, who I always believed to be a legit tough guy. He was still a legit tough guy, as any number of wrestlers will testify to. He just got caught with a perfect shot from a pretty strong guy that was still in his athletic prime. Can happen (and has) to anyone. You don't earn the top spot in Mid-South/UWF and then All-Japan without being tough. Not to mention his collegiate athletic accomplishments.

Doubting them for booking that crap in the first place.
