I just watched the WCCW dvd. Not the one wwe made, the other one. And it got me to thinking, why did wwe never hire Kevin Von Erich? I dont think he was in wcw either. I think he had a look that would have fit in perfectly with either wcw or wwf, plus he came from a family of wrestlers so there should have been no doubt that the man knew how to work.

He actually did wrestle in the WWF a couple of times in the early 1980s. Can't remember exactly when. I expect as much as anything it was his loyalty to his father that stopped him going there. WCCW was dead by the time Kerry went there and became the Texas Tornado. Kevin was slowing it down a bit by then.
Kevin had a great look and was a good worker. He didn't quite have the charisma to make it to the top for me though. Definitely not in 1980s WWF.
EDIT: In my personal opinion I like Kevin's work and think he could have been a solid midcard asset. Just didn't happen for whatever reason!

Kevin was great in the ring but Kerry and David were better all around.

I think the Von Erichs could have worked in the NWA or WCW, but as we saw with Kerry, mostly due to his own issues, it didn't really work in the WWF. To me Flair had great chemistry with the Von Erichs.
I watched a lot of WCCW when I was a kid, and I loved it. But Kevin didn't really have the kind of physique that we all know Vince loved at the time, that Kerry did have, and I would say that is mostly why. I speculate that Kevin kind of was worn on the business some after so many family tragedies and WCCW going under.

For Kevin, wrestling always seemed like it was something he felt he had to do. Not sure if he ever really wanted to be the next Hulk Hogan or Ric Flair. I think he was more than happy enough carrying on the family name while staying put in Texas. No denying Fritz pushed wrestling on each of them.
I always viewed it as: David loved it. Kerry was a natural. Kevin enjoyed it. Mike tried. Chris loved it but was too small.

Mike and Chris both tried and prob loved it but they were both physically unable to compete. Mike had that thing in his shoulder that caused him to cease being a functional wrestler. And Chris had osteoporosis according to one dvd, and according to the other dvd his growth was stunted due to some asthma medication.

With all those animals in the WWE back in the late 80s and early 90s, it was probably wise NOT to have Kevin Von Erich be a part of the company.

They have tons of talent. The problems lies in the direction of the company and Vince constantly playing it safe. Kevin was very talented. No denying that. I could be way wrong, but as I said, I don't think he needed (or wanted) to be the next mega star. I think he was happy living on the farm and wrestling a few times a week. Almost like it was a hobby. There's a differance in doing it cause you love it, and doing it to make your father/family proud.

This is partly why I feel Kevin is a better wrestler than current talent. Kevin was around wrestling 24/7. It was in his blood. Look at Kevin's history, his father forced him to be a workhorse. Kevin was never a mega star and yet he kept working. Unlike some current wrestlers who will abandon wrestling if they dont get their way.
