I find the prices most of the time AWFUL. I remember when we were at Legends 4 or 5 I think - you could still get them for like 20$ on ebay. NOW it's ridiculous. And the sad thing is - these figs aren't even 'old'. You can get alot of vintage toys for cheaper - MOC. HOW does THAT make any sense? I'm glad I only need 3 older figs Gabriel, Hardy and Smith but they're gonna wait a while cuz they're all over 50$ and that's without the 20+$ shipping... These scalpers are getting out of control too and stores do nothing about them. I was at TRU this weekend trying to find a fig for someone on the board and I was talking to one of the guys there and he was showing the only new stuff they got in - Transformers toys. Anywhoo, he was telling me about these combiner figs (I don't collect TF stuff) and he had to you know just tell me cuz he had none to SHOW ME. Cuz some 40 yr old guy bought all the ones he was unpacking before he even had taken them out of the box. He took them all. THIS kind of crap pisses me off. Maybe we need to petition a company like TRU to not let people buy 4-6 or more of the SAME toy cuz they're obviously scalpers... I know it's hard to put limits on what customers buy cuz you're in the business of selling toys BUT STILL. Something THAT obvious is ridiculous. Anyone got any ideas on how possibly get these retailers to acknowledge this online SCALPING and help put (somewhat) of an end to it? I just can't believe it when I see things like Lex Luger going for 70$ (with shipping) on e-bay. My TRU got ONE in this year. ONE lousy figure for the entire city. Bad enough they don't get sent the merch from wharehouses but then we gotta pay through the nose cuz some douchebag can't get a real job and has to make a hobby into a disgusting cash cow opportunity. It's just getting out of control and yes I feel the OP's pain. Even just NOT FINDING anything on shelves when you've checked once a week for like 2 months is really frustrating. For the first time ever - last month - I was like "screw it, maybe I should just sell them all..." cuz I couldn;t find anything I wanted in stores and blah blah balh Now I doubt I ever would have but damn it can be a bummer sometimes lol yes I rambled on and on - sorry lol You can't blame scampers for limited numbers of figures. I collect Warrior and Ruback figures, loose and MOC, so I buy 2 of each. Sometimes all there is is 2 of each, I'm not scalping though. Sometimes certain figures are one per case, it's not because someone has bought them all No that's not scalping but imo that's being a douchebag. Don't take that as personally as it sounds lol I'm just saying if you go to the store and YOU KNOW that they short pack figs and let's say they only put out 2 cases and you bought the ONLY 2 there and gave no one else a chance to buy once just so you can have one loose and one moc... well I'll never understand that. I don't know why anyone needs TWO of any ACTION FIGURE when they have bills to pay. Considering how mattel makes the boxes so you can open them and keep them in PERFECT CONDITION I just think that's a totally SILLY waste of money. Once again, if I don't say TO EACH THERE OWN - cuz no one can say anything without other people throwing a hissy fit on here - you do what you want with your (or your parents) money. I just don't get that. It's bad enough I feel silly walking out of toys r us with TOYS at my age (especially since it's kids behind the cash) lol but to walk out with TWO OF THE SAME thing I'd feel extra SAD lol Again, not knocking anyone that's just my opinion/feelings. But YEAH I can blame scalpers for limited numbers of figures. Not from the factory (short packing - but I didn't say anything about that) but on the shelves, hell yes. Just cuz YOU aren't scalping - who else am I gonna blame when - and did you even READ what I wrote - some guy buys all the figs out of a case (like the EXAMPLE I stated) including multiples...who else should I blame? God? C'mon. Your lucky though in the fact that no one wants any Ruback figures anyways lol and don't get all bent out of shape about what I write pls Remeber we're talking about TOYS

I've learned to avoid bidding wars, even last minute "sniping." That tends to get you into trouble. You should always decide what YOU feel comfortable spending on a specific figure before you start searching. Forget "what it's worth" to everyone else, that's another thing that gets people into trouble.
I never collected Jakks WWE, but I've collected the Mattel stuff from the beginning. I try to just focus on my favorites, but I also like to "universe build" most of my collections. For example, I can't just have Superman on my shelf. It has to be Superman with the Justice League and villains, etc. I try to fill up the shelf. That said, I try to avoid getting a figure, just to get it. I look at what's coming out, pick what I like and then try to stick to that. Sure, I may stray every now and then, but generally following these guidelines keeps me focused on what I want and happy with my collection.

I have been collecting Mattel since the beginning, but I used to skip a lot more figures back then. So in a way, I feel you. I got a lot of modern guys but had skipped a lot of Legends in the process. I just looked up Bam Bam Bigelow yesterday and there is one MOC for over $100.00. I can't even.....

I mostly just kick myself now. Like stuff that I passed on a ton of times or sold off is now astronomical in price. I was watching a loose Hacksaw Legends figure this week. I remember seeing them on clearance in Target for like $9.00 for months, and months, on end and I just didn't want it because at the time I didn't plan on having cases full of figures. The auction got over $20 with like a day left and I just laughed and unwatched it.
Thankfully, I don't have any major holes, as I've kept all the stuff I really cared about. However, there are a few guys that I would take now that I passed up, but I'm not paying more than I would any other figure at retail. So that's my catch 22, I guess. I don't want them bad enough to over spend, but I would like to have them. E13 Edge is a prime example. I've owned it 2 or 3 times but sold it off with lots. I assumed we would have another one, WM17 preferably, by now and I didn't like the face on the E13 figure anyway. Now my C is E-less. I refuse to pay more than $20 and even loose I think it goes for double that usually. So my hope is that Mattel just makes the Edge I want to see happen, eventually.
I will say the resale on WWE figures is unlike anything I've ever seen. Just people being shady and the scalping pretty out of control. People who intentionally bid auctions up and then never pay happens ALL the time. It's horse sh*t and why I never buy anything with the intent of selling it at this point, so like the BAF sets. I just don't want to deal with it, sans doing Buy It Now, which is fine but you have to over charge to cover fees just to break even and hope someone is willing to buy.
I tend to think having a limit is a good thing. Regardless of how much you're able to spend, that should be different than what you're willing to spend. Everything has a value. It's easy to get addicted and carried away and just start buying everything blindly to fill out your collection, I've done this myself. Chances are your actual demand for what you're buying isn't even across the board for every figure you're buying. So my best advice is to decide what from the past is worth over spending to get and make a list. This is something you can fill out over time and once that list is complete you can reevaluate anything additional you might want to add to the list. In the mean time, you can stay up-to-date with the stuff that's currently hitting at retail.

I never ever do a buy it now, unlesss its for a massive bulk at, or below UK retail price.
I don't understand people that pay way over the odds for brand new figures, from scalpers. Buying around 800 figures near to release, all that is ever required is a bit of patience. Some people have more money than sense, I get that.....but it's really not hard.
Pay zero attention to the exhorbitant BIN prices you see on ebay, because very few of them actually get hit.
If you look in the sold prices, only 500 mattel items have sold globally, Buy It now, over 50 quid, since November.
If every one on here starved the scalpers and only bought on ebay, figures that can not be bought at retail, things would be better for us all.

Ive had someone outbid me on an item that had another listing BIN price of like a dollar more than his bid. I was gonna save like 7-8, which is shipping basically. He over paid by 1. Some people

It really does bother you? I work hard for my money, so if I want to go in a store and buy 2 figures or a 102 I can and will, I am sorry if little Timmy doesn't get one but I look after me and my family first, I collect loose and MOC because I want to, if I wanted to collect back to front I would too, I'm sorry if your offended but... Actually I'm not, how does me buying 2 of the same figure really get you so riled? Good luck with your figure hunting

I get so mad when I last second bid and they out bid me even then... eBay just gets you mad sometimes. One scenario I'd like to put forth is this: A figure is auctioned and I put down I'm willing to go up £100.00 as I'm from the UK. If someone came in to bid against me, would EBay tell that bidder they would have to bid over the £100.00 to outbid me ?. Any ideas. No eBay doesn't do that.

Yea im not a guy that wants to collect every figure ever made. If I could just have one really good figure of my favorites and ones I grew up with id be happy. I just cant see myself spending $40 on a loose figure that isn't that rare, guess im not rich enough yet.
Im not that far behind but like I said I did miss out on a lot of good figures. At least I have this site now to keep me updated.
And I cant complain, I get deals on ebay all the time.

I feel your pain. I've been sniped on eBay multiple times the past two weeks on a Big Bossman and Akeem to name a few.
I did find and win auctions of Legends 6 Macho Man and Legends Rick Martel which are two phenomenal figures I always wanted. I also finally have coming to me the RSC exclusive Macho King that I picked up in a Buy Now.
eBay can be really frustrating because I like you have had to do some back tracking. My saving grace was my best friend selling me an array of figures such as Diesel, Yokozuna, Jake the Snake Roberts

At the start of Mattel's contract I planned on buying every Basic and Elite figure. After spending nearly $300 on Basic 4 (a set I didn't even care for) and Two Pack series 4, I thought to myself 'why am I even buying these figures?' and eventually sold them all. Now I just stick to buying all the Elites. I did that when I first jumped in. I bought almost everything from Wal-Mart and K-Mart, including basics of guys who I didn't even like. I spent around $300 in one day and then had huge buyers remorse because I was like "What am I gonna do with these? What purpose do they serve?" So I put them in a box and stuck them in a closet because I knew if I sold them right away I'd be like "Why did I sell all those figures?" With them stuck in my closet, I could get them out every time the collecting urge hit and remind myself of why I didn't want to buy anymore. Then, I put some perimeters on my collecting and decided I was just going to do legends and cool gimmicks (e.g. Wyatt Family). I've spent almost $600 (thanks Paypal Credit) in the last month to rebuild my collection and I love it. I'm going to work my tail off over the next six months selling stuff on eBay to pay off my Paypal credit before it starts accruing interest. The great part is that if I decide to sell my collection one day, I think I'll be able to get some pretty good money out of it. It's not like buying digital items like video games, where that money is gone forever after you spend it. My figures are an investment.

Had a bad night on ebay tonight, lost 2 really great auctions and have been buying a lot of figures lately. Just recently I have gotten the feeling of being "tired" of chasing certain figures down without having to pay so much for them. I'm not the richest guy on the block but have a pretty decent monthly budget I spend on them. Just getting to a point where I ask myself "do I really need this?" on certain items. Ever since I got back into collecting again I have been replacing some of my lower quality jakks figures with mattel, was doing pretty good but now I think I missed out on a lot from those years I was absent. Any one else get these moments? Thats why I think it is important to diversify your toy collecting, for example, nto only do I collect WWE mattel but also NECA Godzilla and Marvel Legends. So when I tire of the offerings of one line I spend more time on others.

I feel your pain buddy, and I've felt the same a few times. I haven't used ebay in a year now because I'm all caught up but I agree with the prices being ridiculous for figures that aren't even.... whats that word? Rare? Just take it easy, the fun part about collecting is the hunt IMO. Then you finally get that figure feels accomplishing! Its another trophy to the collection, and funny thing is you're probably bidding against half the people here posting in your thread lmao. You can't blame scampers for limited numbers of figures. It's bad enough I feel silly walking out of toys r us with TOYS at my age (especially since it's kids behind the cash) lol but to walk out with TWO OF THE SAME thing I'd feel extra SAD lol Again, not knocking anyone that's just my opinion/feelings. God? C'mon. Your lucky though in the fact that no one wants any Ruback figures anyways lol and don't get all bent out of shape about what I write pls Remeber we're talking about TOYS I can see this in your view. I to think its ridiculous to buy 2 figures of the same but I actually do that lmao. My reason of course, 1 to keep loose and one to keep MOC. Since the jakks CS days, I've collected so much figures and kept them in the box, it looked so cool posted on the wall next to posters and banners just for decorations. Since elites have articulation, its more fun to have open for posing but I also like to keep my favorite superstars on the wall instead of taking them in and out of the box, which is so much convenient. I agree with speaktomewarrors, pretty much saying "1st come 1st serve". But there's a limit IMO. To walk out with 4+ of the same figures is repulsive, and I personally know a few guys that scalp and sell for higher for a living, so that stereotype is true. Only figure I have 5 of so far is Billy Gunn, now before you sit there and think "WTF FOR? WHY SO MANY" Well I'm a huge Billy Gunn mark, and want to paint his alternate attires since his gear was so colorful. I didn't buy all 5 at once, but every time I had the extra cash to grab him, I would. I mean he was sitting there for awhile, so no guilt here haha. I'm sure this won't change your views which isn't my inetntions but those are my thoughts/opinions on that subject. Sorry if this post was incoherent, I'm running back and fourth with this 7 week old puppy, and they destroy everything in their path lmao.
