Been watching Nitro on the WWE Network and watched Superbrawl '96 yesterday.
Something just didn't seem right about Sullivan vs Pillman in the strap match, it felt like it was supposed to go on much longer but Pillman walked out and Arn Anderson, who obviously wasn't ready, replaced him.
Bischoff's been saying on the commentary that there's only 3 horsemen in the building and Pillman has tried to jump the barricade during a match but was escorted out.
Anyone know the backstage story about this? Was Pillman fired or was it a storyline playing off his Loose Cannon gimmick?

His gimmick that he used to trick Bischoff into legit releasing him from the company.

As far as WCW knew, it was storyline and giving Pillman his legitimate release would play into it. But Pillman used that to jump to WWF.

There's a really detailed article about this incident on grantland.com that I would recommend reading. But basically, Pillman and Bischoff came up with this plan to have Pillman shoot on Sullivan, which took place and to cement the worked shoot plans that only those 2 knew about, WCW actually released Pillman because they thought he was legitimately "a loose cannon". Bischoffs plan was to bring Pillman back as some kind of anti-hero Stone Cold type character but In the end it backfired and he jumped to ECW and WWF and the rest is history. It's one of those really unquie incidents in Pro Wrestling history. Who knows... If Pillman had stuck with the plan, his life could have taken a much different path.
