Hey guys. I'm thinking about getting a new car and I think I've narrowed my choices down to either the Honda Accord or the Jeep Cherokee. Both are roughly the same price with all the features I want.
I'm really torn and wondering if I could get some opinions. All my friends are saying to get the Jeep. But my parents are saying to get the Accord, and the online experts like Kelley Blue Book have the Accord rated slightly higher.
One thing that has me leaning toward the Jeep is that it has all wheel drive while the Accord has continuously variable transmission. Also the Jeep has Sirius and heated steering wheel and seats, while the Accord has XM and only heated seats.
Anyone know any pros and cons of each vehicle? I'm looking to lease a 2015 model of either.

I'm almost 40. I'd go with the Accord because it gets really good gas mileage, it's less showy, and it's reliable.
Jeeps are great too, especially if you live someplace where you get a lot of snow. If you don't need one for reasons like snow or utility I would pass on it. But that's just me.
I hope that helps.

The mpg on both cars were reasonably similar. The Accord was a little better around 27 mpg while the Jeep was around 24 mpg. I think I might stop by a couple dealerships tomorrow and check them both out. Thanks.

I bought a new 06 Accord and I don't regret it. Durable, reliable, comfortable, and holds decent resale value.

Go with Honda. They are more reliable from my experience. I have a Civic and I love it. My friend has a Jeep and has tons of problems.
NEVER get anything by Ford or Saturn. You're gonna have a bad time.

The Accord not having 4 wheel drive is what makes it a tough decision for me I had an Accord a few years ago and loved it but in the snow it didn't take too much to spin out. Right now I'm driving a 4matic Mercedes E350. It's really nice but the maintenance is too expensive.
Last week I damaged a rim. It's costing me close to $1,000 to fix.

My Wife had a Ford (F ix O r R epair D aily / F ound O n R oad D ead - these aren't said just because, they're true) and that Ford was sold for scrap metal weight after it died at 90k. I too have a Civic and I don't think I'll never not be a Honda guy again.

I don't know a thing about Jeeps, but I do know that Honda's are great cars. And, depending on which plan you get, having a Sirius or XM radio won't matter. Due to some weird contract issues there are a few changes that are to XM (which makes no sense because they are the same company) but they're mostly kids stuff and Spanish language channels. But you can get Sirius channels on an XM radio.

Ya know, I had a Taurus for 5 years and put 120k miles on it and aside from routine stuff (tires, tune ups, brakes, etc) I never had did any work to it aside from a new starter. On the flip side, my parents have an Explorer and it's a turd on wheels.

Found On Road Dead, or Fix Or Repair Daily Saturn's aren't that bad. there's a ton of the first generation ones with hundreds of thousands of miles on them and still going strong

I would get the Jeep, especially if it is a 4x4.

I was gonna go to a few dealerships today and check the cars out in person but it snowed yet again. Maybe tomorrow. I've seen online that some local dealers are having nice deals right now. I may even be able to afford a Gran Cherokee.
One more question. Do you guys think a 4 cylinder engine is good enough or should I go for the v6? My car now is a v6 and I don't remember what driving a 4 cylinder was like in comparison. I don't remember it being bad.

Drive both and see which you like better. One my sit funny or you might not like something once you're in it or the way it drives. Just test drive them and try them out. Either one will be fine. However, if you do go Jeep, go with a V6. Larger vehicles with smaller engines just have no horse power. You dont need a speed burner but its nice to be able to climb a hill without having to stomp the gas.
Also, whatever you buy take care of it. The old "Ford sucks" or "Chevy's never last" things are just on running jokes. Almost every car company has major flaws. There's a reason you can go into a parts store and find parts for nearly any car, its because ALL of them mess up if you dont take care of them. My family has owned Fords all their lives until recently and havent had any serious problems. I own a Nissan (and have turned most of my family into Nissans) and we've yet to have any problems from them.

Checked out both cars today. Went to Jeep first. Told the salesman that I wasn't ready to make a deal today but I wanted to check the car out. I told him I was interested in either the Cherokee or Grand Cherokee. He asked me what my budget was and advised me that the Cherokee would be the better choice. We talked about a black v6 Cherokee with all the features I wanted. It wasn't on the lot at the moment but was in transit. He did however, let me test drive a 4 cylinder Cherokee. My biggest worry with the Jeep is that I would feel awkward driving a truck. I sat in this thing and started driving. It felt like I had been driving it for years. I was so comfortable and it was such a smooth ride. We went back inside and discussed how much the one we were talking about would cost. We landed on $415 a month 12,000 miles a year after trading in my car. He told me to think about it and come back and see him next week or something if I wanted it.
I think I'm not really getting a good deal on the trade in, so I'm going to talk to my dad about buying my car. That way I can use the money for a down payment and possibly get the monthly payments even lower, while he can sell my car privately (he's more attached to my current car than I am).
Afterward, I went to the Honda dealership. I told him I was just checking the car out and wasn't ready to make a deal yet and he was like "Well maybe I can knock your socks off with a real good deal and get you in a car today." He asked me what color I was looking for and I told him something darker like blue, black, or dark gray. He said "I have silver. It hides dirt well. Let's talk about making a deal." So we went over to his desk and discussed specifics. He told me If I put $2,000 down the monthly payments would be $382. He then followed up with "I really want to make this deal today." He came off as really desperate and I felt pressured. I didn't really ask too much more. I did find out the remote starter is extra, while it comes standard on the Jeep. I just didn't feel right about getting the Honda. At least from there. The salesman seemed so sad when I left.
Probably next week I'm going to go back to the Jeep dealership with my dad and see if we can get the price down a bit more. If not, $415 a month is still an improvement from the $450 I'm paying now.

I paid cash for my truck so I'm not sure on that sort of stuff. Worked a lot of hours for that. My car I got for free from a customer of my dad. True story.

Sorry to bump and old thread but I just wanted to give some closure on this. I got my new car.
I ended up leasing a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I've been driving it a few days now and I love it. The features are probably pretty standard on today's cars, but it's so much more than anything I've ever seen before. The freaking car itself is a wifi hotspot. I definitely adapted to driving a truck very quickly.
Of course with my luck, I brought the car home on Wednesday, and Thursday we got like 6 or 7 inches of snow, so now I have to get it washed right after it was just detailed. I guess it's better than the birds that crapped on my old car every day the first week I had it.
