I hate music piracy so much that I have stopped recommending bands to people unless they are people I know who will buy. I really hate digital music too, how it's all compressed, Just feels disrespectful that convenience is more important than hard work. What makes me even more furious is how bands release digital only albums, EPs and even concert blu rays! Fans like me who enjoy physical albums have to suffer too, these days bands cheapen out so much on physical copies. Such as lack of album sleeve etc. And for those who think cds are expensive, maybe you cut down on the amount you spend on getting drunk. Again, all about convenience, it's so easy to steal music these days over other things. oh..and good luck with your paper

The ones that succeed are going to be the ones who evolve with the changing landscape of the industry. Check this out:
A band I got into late is putting out a new record and playing their first show in 11 years this May. They're not huge by any means, but once that record is out there, it will be pirated, and they're gonna want to find a way to drum up some sales so that the cost of recording/pressing isn't a total loss, right?
Enter the presale for the show in May. Regular ticket will be $15, but the club is small, you wanna get in right? Buy the presale package for $35. You're guaranteed to get into the show, and you're getting yourself a special colored vinyl of the new record plus a cd plus a digital download.
Instant sales.
