That would have been face Cena to me. Jorts Cena is half a heel anyway.

I always felt that post WrestleMania 28 would have been a good time to make the turn. He could have had a slow burn stemming from Kane's "embrace the hate" stuff and the soul crushing loss to the Rock. Brock Lesnar returns and the fans cheer for Brock, hurting Cena even more. Not only does Brock kill him but the fans enjoy it. Eventually, he would turn heel. Your idea is too logical...WWE would never go for a story that makes that much sense.

I thought for sure Cena was gonna finally turn heel around or shortly after WrestleMania 28. The set up was there so this actually doesn't surprise me. If you go back and watch all of the pieces were put in place for Cena to turn heel but I think WWE got cold feet and didn't trust Punk's drawing power as the top babyface of the company. The Rock was only around part time so that didn't help either.

That's why they should've changed it to a triple-threat, and put heel Punk in the match. or you know...not having Punk drop the title to a movie star Yeah...dont have Punk drop the title to the guy SELLING OUT the arenas.

I thought we were going to see a heel turn at WM28. The Rock was the home town guy in that situation. The arena was largely there to see Rock in that match and they wanted him to win. If a heel turn was ever going to be Hogan-esque for Cena it would have been at that time and in that moment. I think it still would have been a shock to a large amount of people. The setting was perfect for it, but It just never happened.
I get it. I don't agree with it, and I think it's ass backwards logic, but I get it. Don't rock the boat and what not. We live in an age where WWE's corporate perception takes precedent every time over the quality of their show. That to me has ultimately been the downfall of the quality in WWE. You can't be your best when you're walking on egg shells, which applies to the performers as well.

Y'know, I feel like if WWE ever truly ran with it, they could replace Cena with two or three other faces in his place. Have Daniel Bryan, Dolph and Reigns be the merchandise, Make-A-Wish and public appearance darlings. Dolph already had that weird cricket wireless promo on SD. Last WM with Connor the Crusher, Bryan was the catalyst. The women and kids adore Reigns. They can make goat masks/detachable beards/furry wristbands for DB. Make DZ sunglasses/hair ties/workout shirts (more dudes at my gym than you'd imagine already wear his with the sleeves cut off). For Reigns, make 'superman punch' hands (like Hulk hands)/grey contacts(lulz)/flak vests.
Seriously, the marketing will take care of itself. Cena is off making films with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. Eventually, he'll transition to the Hollywood Rock role in real life, so let him play a heel like Rock did (at the apex of his temporary appearance-ness) so we can see something fresh, have new feuds and shake things up.
I know everyone always says "never gonna happen", but it could happen. Easily. They have to pass the torch at some point. Why not make it a gradual process, rather than being caught off guard and having to hotshot guys like when Austin and Rock basically left at the same time. Then Brock. If not, this company will go through a lull like they did in the mid-90's when Hogan jumped ship.
Do it damn it.

Yup. Who can forget The Rock selling out arenas every week during his two year comeback run? Oh wait. Who said every week? I think his point was that it doesn't really matter how many arenas he sold out since he was never there. He was more of an absentee champion than Brock. Whereas CM Punk was legit over and he was at every show.

Whereas CM Punk was legit over and he was at every show. Oh....I get it. But Rock was around just as much as Brock has been. Only difference is Brock aint selling out arenas. Yeah...Punk was over and yeah he was at every show. And yeah...he still couldnt sell an arena out. Rock was MORE over. For the same reasons why Cena sits atop the business, is why The Rock was more over. Dollars ring louder and than cheers or boos.
