Hey all, well at long last my wait is over…I finally own an elite, Mattel Doink the Clown! As a lot of you probably know, he's been right up there as my number 1 want, right alongside Hogan. Doink is probably an odd choice for an all time favorite wrestler, right? Well, it all began waaaay back when i was probably only 5 or so (I'm now 25) when my parents got my a Hasbro Doink for Christmas. This was my first ever wrestling figure, and I actually still own it…but more importantly, it was this figure that began my love for all things wrestling and wrestling figure related. I know a lot of people picture Doink as the goofy jobber gimmick, but when I loved the character, he was played by Matt Borne. I still think he's one of the most under-rated guys in the business, and I recommend checking out some of his matches on the Network against Bret, Janetty, Perfect, Typhoon, etc. I'd also recommend looking up some of his old promos on youtube…his one about Crush prior to WM 9 is super eerie!
Anyway, on to the figure! This is, all bias aside, not only one of the best Flashbacks, but one of the best figures Mattel has ever made in the WWE line! I'm not kidding, this thing is insanely detailed, from his colorful costume, to the classic Borne chest hair sticking out the top, and the perfectly applied face paint…this is one solid figure! A lot of people shrugged at the idea of the 3 wigs being included, but i guarantee swapping them out will be one of the most enjoyable aspects to this figure. The parts choices are excellent, and the honky tonk man torso is SPOT ON. So glad he doesn't have those skinny thighs either! Even his boots are the appropriate 'short' style, with the white trim along the bottom. I was fortunate to get a Doink who had super clean paint apps, which is impressive considering the amount of deco on this guy! No bleeding paint, and nice tight joints overall. The bucket accessory, while oversized, is a nice touch and a cool callback to his shenanigans of tossing confetti…or perhaps, water at his opponents.
Final words: Absolutely stoked to have Doink in my Mattel collection. It's been a super long wait, but I'm happy that we got him now at the height of their abilities…and damn does it show!
THANK YOU BILL AND MATTEL!!!
I already have a second one coming from Ringside to keep MOC. This figure truly is that good. Even if you're not a fan of the gimmick, this is simply a FUN figure to own. As if there wasn't enough cheese in this thread to begin with, my Wife is pregnant with our first child who happens to be a boy! I plan on getting another at retail to save for when he's old enough. I see a lot of fellow members on here sharing their hobbies with their kids and I can't wait to do the same
p.s. I also included some pics of my updated arena and backstage area…enjoy!
