Owen had peaked as a wrestler in 88 to 90. Widely considered the best in the world at that point. I remember getting tapes from Japan, and being so pleasantly surprised of how his work had improved from the Stampede days. Truly an amazing talent. Never once considered to be a world champion though. Maybe....getting a sniff of it when they bounced around the title in the late 90's, but he wasnt going to be a draw, and not a guy to build a company around. Always baffled to the Austin situation. Seemed so out of character...but honestly...unless he explained his actions or feelings, it's all just conjecture to fuel whatever narrative that makes us comfortable.

Why did shawn seem like the biggest ass back then? Wouldnt put bret over? Wouldnt work with owen? I wonder if it was because he was scared Owen would shoot on him for what he did to Bret? He did work a very small angle with him, but shortly after was hurt at the Rumble, so who really knows…...
