My wife and I bought my kid all kinds of wrestling figures over the past year. He went from having an elite John Cena to just about every elite produced and delivered to retail (up until about elite 32). He and Cena were like Andy and Woody from Toy Story. Then, like a light switch, he turned it all off. No longer interested. Rusev will be available in stores, like, any minute now and he couldn't care less. He tells me that he and his best friend don't watch wrestling anymore, hence, no more need for collecting. This saddens me because I thought we had a good thing going --a real bond in the form of Mattel action figures. Now I have a real scale ring and a plastic tote filled with upwards of 120 elite and basic figures that haven't been looked at since Reigns won the Royal Rumble.
Just as well, I guess. My wife, son and daughter, and myself are all major Dolph Ziggler fans and it's apparent the WWE has no plans of moving him to an elevated status. The family has moved on but I cling to a glimmer of hope. For now, the plastic tote gets sealed away. Maybe they'll have Toy Story moments when nobody is watching.

If I were you I would just play with em if your kid isn't and maybe he will eventually come around. It is hard to stay excited about the current product. Maybe show him some cool old school matches when it was a bit more thrilling

Roman Reigns is killing wrestling errr mmyyyy ggaaawwdddd !!!!!
Seriously, though, just because he doesn't have any interest in it anymore doesn't mean that you can't continue on.
He's probably growing out of it as are his friends, so he made the decision to stay with the pack instead of going solo and have figures.
Honestly, I don't blame him, but he's just growing up.
Kids now a days try to all be the same, with brands and fads, but your son will eventually find out who his true friends are and if it's in him to keep collecting then he will, it's probably just a phase.
I wouldn't throw anything out, but don't force him into liking something that he doesn't have interest in anymore, but just encourage the new change (if it's a good one).
I'm sure that your disappointed, but I hope it turns out well, brother !

Get the Network. It's actually brought our family closer together since we have shows that we all watch. My fiancé when I met her was the type that legitimately hated wrestling "because it's fake" and she didn't want to watch "a bunch of sweaty men rolling around together." From watching Legends House, the Countdown, and whatever other shows on there she can now appreciate the old school product. Her daughter is 9 and is 50% the reason why I even collect again. She can tell you all 3 members of Demolition, who the Powers of Pain were, and what Koko B Ware's bird was named... And she wasn't even born until 2005! Your son is going through a phase where it's not cool to watch wrestling anymore I'm sure. The days of actually playing with figs with him could be over, but I'm sure the "wrestling isn't cool phase" will pass.

My son just went on a slight faze where he didn't play with his toys anymore because he started playing video games. It lasted about 6 months and now he doesn't play video games anymore. I kept collecting him the flashbacks in the meantime and the last three or four days he has asked me to play with him setting up wrestling guys in royal rumble style matches. He's only 5 so I know I have a while longer where he will still love his action figures. We just watched wrestlemania 6 together yesterday

Give him time. Mine did the same thing but has slowly become interested again after a year. She went from hating everyone BUT Cena, to now liking Daniel Bryan and having an interest in Randy Orton and Brock Lesnar! Kids are fickle..don't push it or you may turn him off altogether. hang in there brother

Collecting with my son is what got me back into it as well. He was 9 at the time, and was really excited, we played together and it was awesome. He's 13 now, and we don't play anymore, just display and I'm way more excited about it than him lol. We still watch wrestling together though, but he's much more concerned with football and basketball.

My wife and son don't give to s**ts about wrestling. My son watches it with me for 5 minutes here and there and my wife doesn't even give it that much attention.

I know exactly how you feel. Something similar to this happened to me a few years ago. It was WrestleMania XXVIII. The main event featured one of my all-time favorites (number 2B on my list to be exact), The Rock vs. my son’s favorite of all time, John Cena. Well, you know how the story goes. As soon as the show ended, my son’s world came crashing down…as I celebrated. He was crushed. I explained to him that Cena will get his revenge, but probably not until WrestleMania 29. “A year is too long to wait for a rematch!!” he said. “Why not at Extreme Rules instead??” he asked. He already knew that it was all scripted and they are basically live action comic book heroes and villains. He just didn’t understand why they would wait till the next WrestleMania. Needless to say, his interest started dropping at a pretty fast rate.
Fast forward to WrestleMania 29, and the rematch is on, this time for the richest prize in this industry. By this point, he wasn’t into it as he once was. The only match he wanted to see was Rock / Cena II. When Cena got his redemption he was happy. My son was in my face, saying things like, “Rock won last year, but not only did Cena win this year, but he won the Belt!!” or “The Champ is here!!” or “I bet his side plates will look better than the Rock’s!!”
That night and the following week, my son was back to being a fan, but that soon dissipated back to being a casual fan, instead of the hardcore SMark I once knew. He has many other interests that we share, like the Philadelphia Eagles, the Philadelphia Phillies, the Philadelphia Sixers, and the Philadelphia Flyers, as well as video games and other TV shows, etc. One thing I do appreciate is that when January comes around, he always asks me, “so who’s winning the Royal Rumble this year??” Even though he’s not into WWE from May to December, I’m glad I always have someone to ride shotgun on the Road to WrestleMania.

I know as a kid myself my interest in WWF peaked at times while other times it wasn't as high. Once I started watching I was always a fan and never would I consider myself NOT a fan, but there were periods in which maybe I wasn't watching every week. The longest I could think of was right after SummerSlam 93. I had been watching religiously since January 1991 up until August 93, but after that event, I just stopped watching regularly. I'm not even blaming the card, as weak as it may have been, it could've just been the phase I was going through in my life at the time. Maybe it was getting different friends, a new school year, finding a different show I liked, a bigger interest in video games. I'm not quite sure the reason, but it happens. It's all a part of growing up and having your interests changing.
It wasn't until the next Summer, before SummerSlam '94 that my interest in the WWF picked up again. When it did, I went back and watched all the PPVs I missed and regretted not following along. Another time period, as crazy as it may sound, was right after SummerSlam 97, I stopped watching again. I remember watching every now and then after that event, and I did order the IYH: Badd Blood PPV, but I missed Survivor Series 97 and didn't watch regularly again until the events leading upto Royal Rumble 1998. That's not as long as the previous gap of time, and I have an idea why the change (I had just started high school in the Fall of 1997), but it's another example of my interest waning.
So I would say, before you throw in the towel on your son's interest, realize that he's a kid and kids pick up and drop interests all the time. Even for me, the most die hard WWF fan for most of my childhood, I had my peaks and valleys. So don't do anything rash like sell all the figures or get rid of them, give it some time, keep your head up, and maybe your son will regain interest before long.

I saw a kid, maybe six or seven, at Target the other day and I showed him the Doink the Clown flashback Elite and asked him if he wanted it. He looked at me like, "Who is this weird guy I don't know trying to get me to buy some strange clown?" So I know exactly how you feel. Except when I showed my son the Paige figure, he held onto it and carried it around the entire store because he likes it so much.
P.S. - Elite Rusev IS in stores.

When my son was 9, him and I watched wrestling constantly and collected figures together. Fast forward to now and he's 11, and could not care less about wrestling. Won't even really watch it with me. It saddens me, but I also realize he's growing and experiencing lots of new things. One day, he may come back around and love it again, or he may not. My hope is that when he's older and has a family of his own, he'll surprise me with tickets to a live event and I'll be able to pass the love of wrestling down to my grandkids.

He'll come back to collecting. This happened to me as well, but as a tweener/early teenager. I came back after I saw E17 Mankind. But, since your son didn't grow up with Jakks, it's a different situation. He sounds like he's in the phase of "it's cool not to watch wrestling. UFC! UFC! UFC!"

Keep them in totes and maybe they will keep their value enough that he can sell some later to help pay some for college or a couple car payments.

I feel ya. my son was a huge WWE fan for about 3 years, and even got me back into the current product. over the past year an a half, took him to 3 house shows, 2 SmackDown tapings, got him Commemorative Replica belts, and, of course, a ton of wrestling figures. then, around December, I knew something was up when he didn't want ANY WWE stuff for Christmas last year. then in January he announced he "wasn't really into wrestling anymore". ended up selling all his WWE figures. and while part of me is sad, part of me knows this is a natural evolution. he will be 12 soon, and it's more about video games, phones, and the first time noticing girls aren't icky than about wrestling and toys. someday maybe he'll come back. but if not, I have the memories of years of bonding and running around looking for wrestling figures together.

Sadly, you are correct. If ever there was a better critic than those who are naive and completely honest, it's a 6 year old. He calls it like he sees it -- and Roman Reigns just doesn't keep his attention.
