So after a lot of rejection letters from jobs over the course of the past few months and a few days of thinking I'm starting to think maybe I should go back to school. I haven't committed to anything yet but I'm warming up to the idea more now than I did a year ago. I have a certificate in website design but I feel like that alone won't get me a job. I'm just not knowledgeable enough of web design from it because it was only a certificate program so it only offered 2 courses on website design and from both of them all I learned was basic html. The rest of my courses were general graphic design ones. If I go for my associates degree then possibly my bachelors after that it wouldn't be too much more school because I already took most of the art classes I need through getting my certificate. So it would mostly just be the general liberal arts classes then a couple more graphic design classes that I know I could really benefit from.I know graphic design is a field some people can break into without college and I thought I could be one of those people but I'm starting to feel like I need help. I feel like I have a better mentality towards school now and won't screw around like I did when I was 18. I always tell people man I wish I did better in school and put the work in but I feel like it's not to late to. I'm going to be 22 in a couple of days so if I go back now then I can have an associates by the time I'm 24 and a bachelors by 26. If I put in the work I feel like I can really upgrade my skills and increase my chances of breaking into this field.
So I'm feeling motivated and excited about the idea but I'm also feeling a little stressed and nervous, worried about falling back into bad school habits that would keep me from making the experience count. Have any of you guys gone back to school when you thought you never would?

Based on your story, I think it would be a good idea to go back to school.

Go to a Community College and earn a degree the right way. I swear so many people go to private schools because they want to finish fast and get a job sorry but it doesn't work that way at all. I've heard tons of people be in debt cuz they spent thousands at a private school for a certificate that's worth nothing.

I'd be going back to the same school for my associates then would possibly transfer for my bachelors. It really depends on what my poetfolio looks like and If I can handle school.

Good to hear you got it from a community college and not a private school man. You're on the right track since that's what most people do, they graduate with an associates and transfer for their bachelors. So yeah just go back to school and finish it man. Also watch out for student loans, I wouldn't recommend it.

I still owe them like 1000 and the associates would probably be another 2000. I don't know what a bachelors would run me because I haven't looked that far.

Best thing I ever did was go back to school. Got a junk degree and wasn't happy with what I was doing. Went back to community college, now I have an amazing job I'm 100% happy with.
Do it

It depends in what field but sometimes getting a degree would not be enough to get a job. I'm in the IT field and got an associates and some certs but it took a while to get a job and a low paying at that. It's been 8 years now since i got my degree and looking back, I think it was waste for me because I didn't learn nothing that was useful and got some student loans to pay back. My mistake was I went to a private school. I learn from that and stuck through it at low paying job to get my experience. i got another job couple of years later and now I'm gettin paid good money and I have a career rather than just a job.

That's actually not that bad dude, you could easily pay all that back in a few months. And I'm not sure on a bachelors either but I'm sure it'll cost you a couple grand at the latest. Just don't borrow too much where you'll end up in debt. Just borrow what you really need and you should be good.

It's NEVER too late to back to school. I hate that stigma. Becoming better educated is something far too many humans take for granted. Being able to learn at the capacity we do is inherently what makes us human.

Hell, when I was going for my certificate there was a woman in a few of my classes that was in her 70s. I've never felt this driven to go to school before. At 18 the only reason why I even applied to college was because my guidance counselor was hounding me to. I felt pressured and I wasn't ready but I half assed my way through and got the certificate. Now I'm ready to go in and apply myself and get out of it what I put in. I'm still going to wait a week or two before contacting the school, just because I've only been having these feelings for a couple of days and I want to make sure they don't go away.

I mean, I went to college right out of high school and, assuming I don't fail my finals this semester or my classes next semester, I'll be set to graduate with my bachelors in December.
It's never too late to go back to school, especially if you have the means to. There's schools that literally appeal just to adult students and let you get a bachelors degree in just two years with just Saturday all day classes so if you have to work full time you only need Saturday's off.
And since you already went to community college (GREAT idea...wish more people would go to community college first) and have some credits, getting back into it would be easier than you think. And the degree you want is a pretty high demand degree so when you're graduated you could make respectable money.
Good on you wanting to go back man.

Yeah, I'm pretty set on the decision but like I said I just want to make sure it's what I really want before I get in touch with the school again. My girlfriend is thinking about going back to except she didn't finish her degree at all and never picked a major. something tells me I'm going to end up there first just because she's more indecisive about it right now than I am. Not to mention the course shes going for is tougher than mine. But yeah, If I go back school is my top priority. no more screwing around. I already have ideas for study habits I want to get into from the get go so it should be good.
