I've been watching old WCW stuff on the network and forgot how much Tony and Bobby seemed to take shots at eachother, often making for some awkward moments.
My question is did they have legit beef? I haven't really heard anything about this and just wondering if it was real or just great commentary. Tony seemed to disrespect Bobby a lot and Bobby often looked legit pissed.
On another note I loved the old Nitro commentary with Bobby, Eric, and Mongo. They were pretty entertaining. Bobby and Tony, not so much.

I believe Schiavone and Bobby Heenan did have some legit heat. One of the stories I've read is that Heenan wanted to acknowledge the passing of Gorilla Monsoon on Nitro and everyone was totally fine with WCW allowing Bobby to say goodbye to his friend, except for Schiavone, who was fighting against them paying respect to Monsoon. Later in that particular broadcast, Schiavone asked Brain a question and he replied with "I can't hear you down here", referring to Tony having his chair set higher than the other commentators.

This in a nutshell. TS is a piece of crap in my book. Heenan really gives him the works in his RF shoot.

Schiavone did seem to be a dick now and then. he always gave me the impression of someone who thinks he's bigger, or more important, to the wrestling landscape that he actually is.

The funny thing about Tony is, that he wasn't always like that.
Take 1992 for example. It was Jim Ross who thought he was better than Jesse Ventura and wouldn't work with him entirely. They did do commentary together but Jim Ross wouldn't sell Ventura's snide remarks that Ventura is known to make. But when they put Tony with Jesse, that was a winning team for WCW commentary.
Then fast forward to the late 90s, my guess is Tony felt he was the man since WCW Nitro was winning the war on the WWE. I don't know if that was on his own, of Bischoff blowing smoke up Tony's ass to make him feel that way, but it does seem weird how Tony changed from his early 90s stuff with Jesse to this Nitro work with everyone else.

Another reason for Tony Schiavone and Bobby Heenan having beef was Schiavone was told by the brass at CNN Center that he wasn't allowed to speak to Heenan after Heenan was let go by WCW in November of 2000. Schiavone mentioned this when he was on The Ross Report.
Tony Schiavone wasn't bad as a commentator. I would pick his early-90's commentary style over his late-90's commentary.

Booby seemed miserable the last few years in wCw. You could see it on his face. He just didn't want to be there. It wouldn't surprise me if Eric & Tony knew that, and pushed as much as they could.
But then again I could be way off.

Figured I'd toss this in, back when Schiavone worked in WWE in 89/90. Just interesting to see Heenan go off on him, when you consider the real live problems they'd have years later.

But then again I could be way off. Now that you mentioned this, imagine if Bobby Heenan went back to the WWF in 1997-1998. Not sure if his style would have translated into the Attitude Era. I will say this, Heenan was a shell of his former self in WCW. Much like how Tony Schiavone was too towards the end of WCW. Something was off about the dynamic Heenan and Schiavone had.
