So yeah, he was Champion at this time, THE face of the company, so why wasn't he on the PPV? Surely you'd want to showcase what was at that time, probably the most skilled wrestlers they had, right?
Anyone have any reason or knowledge to this?

Who needs Shawn Michaels when you have Vader/Sid on your card?

Who needs Shawn Michaels when you have Vader/Sid on your card? Exactly! That was match for the ages. Definitely one to tell the Grandchildren about in years to come.

Didn't he defend the WWF Championship against Goldust in a dark match? God only knows why he didn't make the main show though.

He did commentary during the vader/Sid #1 contenders match.
It probably had something to do with the fact that he wouldn't have main evented the show anyway since the entire ppv was built around taker vs mankind

There have been rumors about this one since 96.......Vince wanted HBK to work a program with Goldust but he wouldn't as he hated the gimmick(so did Hall, Nash, Kid & HHH)....Mind Games was apparently meant to be Goldust vs HBK and he kicked up over it.....then it was moved to Buried Alive where HBK had kinda agreed.....but then he changed his mind when they weren't on last.
so It was made a dark match because booking the match for TV would have been a nightmare.
But yeah he threw a wobbler over UT vs Mankind being the ME and the PPV being based on their feud. Bearer said this in his shoot....he was such a f*ckin baby in 1996-98.

Plus, it only make sense that "Mind Games" would've been Goldust vs. HBK. It's just like when Vader was screwed out of the title match at IYH: "It's Time".

Yeah that's right......This happened to Vader often. he was steamrolled by Hogan at an event subtitled "Vaders Revenge" too.

The early In Your House PPVs seemed so strange, to me, as the $19.99 price included just a few matches yet there were several matches in the dark match that could've made the actual show. I guess at the lower price, WWF didn't want to give everything away to the home viewers. I would've preferred to pay the extra 10 for a few more matches. I remember being so excited at the Hershey arena getting to see the Savio Vega/Bob Backlund dark match.

Surprisingly never noticed this.
But yeah he didn't want to work a program with Goldust at all.
Hall was the only Kliq memeber to be okay working with Goldie if i remember correctly.
I assume it was a combination of not wanting to work a program with Goldust and not wanting to go on before Taker and Mankind that led to him working the dark match.

None of the Kliq were okay working with Goldust. they were all said to be genuinely horrified by the gimmick. Thye objected strenuously to Hall dropping the IC strap to him at RR96.......especially when Vince said hall mightn't regain it @ WM12.

I think he said "to hell with it" in the end but it was likely a huge factor in his departure too....or that he had already made his mind up.

The thing is, like leading up to Mind Games, it seemed like Michaels was feuding or atleast having run-in's with Goldust, and always wondered why they never faced off. I really damn well think they would have put on one heck of a match, and would have had a nice little month-long feud.

I think he said "to hell with it" in the end but it was likely a huge factor in his departure too....or that he had already made his mind up. I honestly believe money was the only factor in Hall leaving. If Hall really cared about what he was doing and who he was working he would have politiced his way to a world title or the main event scene like his boys were known for. But back on the subject of HBK/Goldust. As much as i would have loved to see a PPV match between the two in 1996 i wouldn't give up the Mankind/HBK Mind Games match to get it. Mind Games is an often overlooked gem. Im glad Foley and HBK both recognize how great of a match they had in their books.
