These are the legends that set it all into motion... The year was 1985.
Since Mattel hasn't given us a Big John Studd or proper Snuka, I improvised. Thanks to Apocalypse for the awesome custom Jimmy Snuka figure - much appreciated!! The scale of the Jakks Andre and Studd actually work nicely with the Mattel figures since they were giants to begin with. I propose that Mattel release a multi-pack with as many of these dudes they can squeeze in it and call it Rock 'N' Wrestling.
Added photo with some additional big names. Starting to skew into 1984 and 1986.

Sweet bro. Where is Hillbilly Jim?
Hillbilly and Volkoff didn't quite make the cut. I never cracked open my Hillbilly Jim because in all the photos I see, he looks too tall. Maybe it's just me.
I'm not a big fan of the Volkoff figure either.
I think compared to the other figures in the photo, those two guys were probably a little lower on the card anyway. Hillbilly broke his leg in '84 I think it was and never really seemed to be engaged in any major feuds after that. Volkoff's biggest claim to fame was being the Sheik's tag team partner. I don't think he was much of a main eventer as a singles wrestler, aside from his feud with Corporal Kirshner.

I love it! I was an instant fan of the hart foundation when they came on the scene. And also I always loved greg the hammer valentine and Hercules. Not sure the exact timing on those but roughly same time. What a great time that was

Cool setup. No Ricky Steamboat though?
I really hope Studd, Valentine and Beefcake are coming soon.

You did a great job. As far as Volkoff goes, I have his figure that came in the 2-pack with Sheik and opened it. It isn't too bad, think it over. I remember the Kirshner feud as well. Volkoff did have the one big TV match with Hogan on Saturday Night's Main Event, as I'm sure you remember. I would guess that to be his high point maybe? I did see another poster mention Tito being missing, which is a good call. Love the Snuka. Captain Lou anyone?

I'm really on the fence with Tito. The current release has long hair and white trunks, which he really didn't adopt until 1987. Has anyone seen a good custom job of Tito that throws back to his intercontinental days?

The Wrestling Album songs and videos included many more wrestlers, so I'm counting that too I admit though, nowhere will you find Sgt Slaughter, Kamala or Jake.
If I wanted to clutter up the display like the LJN ring on the TNT show, I could include Hillbilly, Volkoff, Tito, Steele, Funk, Orton, and probably others I'm not thinking of.
Yep '85 was the year it all really took off!

Yep, Mr T was more or less the conduit for me really getting into wrestling. He obviously had his own cartoon and live action show, but I watched tons of cartoons back in the day. That reminds me... I wish they would release a nice clean version of all the "New Adventures of Gilligan" cartoons.

I like the way you think. The Jake I used is more from '89. I wanted to use the battle pack version, but can't get past the yellow tights. I really wish they were green with purple snakes!!
