you're jumping to needless conclusions. i would've said the same thing if they suggested brock lesnar have any character that was anything more than 'play the gorilla'. i never said it 'needed more charisma than any other person' either, that's your strange wording of things. i just suggested he'd need more charisma than he has to actually play out a role with required character dynamics beyond being a 'tough guy'. I don't buy it. Tell me exactly what would have been required for him to "act gay"? firstly, it's not my concern if you buy it or not, it's the truth from where i'm sitting. wrestling is a story...at least that much we should be able to agree upon, yes? stories are written. when you have a character have certain characteristics, they are used for furthering the story in some manner. a character wouldn't just 'be gay' and they not use that for storyline purposes. one could assume any number of wrestlers that were never involved in storylines with women could very well have been homosexual if that was the case. it goes back to chekhov's gun ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chekhov%27s_gun) - if you're going to write in chapter 1 that you have a gun on the wall, at some point in the book you better use that gun or just write it out of the story. it's not like the commentators would just mention 'oh by the way, this guy is gay...' and then not have anything done with it - especially in 2002. brock lesnar was green as the gills when he first came in, and it was his natural talent and them putting him with the best and protecting him that managed to make him succeed. there is a reason paul heyman talked for him while he essentially just destroyed people - that was all he could do within his realm of capabilities at that point. not take interviews with different media outlets for being something that at the time would've been deemed controversial. now, introduce that as an aspect for his character later down the line, while he was feuding with kurt angle and drafted to smackdown? i'd say it would be an unwise move to the character, but not as completely impractical as having it upon his debut when he was camera shy already.

Imagine if Doink's gimmick was that he was a clown, but he didn't do anything clownish, he just wrestled in normal gear and the commentators talked about him being a clown. So stupid and pointless. Or Bossman just being a wrestler guy but occasionally in a promo saying "I'm a prison guard." If you're gonna have a gimmick, have the gimmick. Don't do a quarter-assed version of it just to get good press. So, what is the gimmick of being "gay" exactly? Therein lies the silliness of writing a gay gimmick. If a gimmick in wrestling isn't used, it's stupid to bother with it in the first place. And if a gay gimmick is used, then it has to be the stereotypical nonsense -- particularly as a large part of wrestling's audience is homophobic old people and teens who use gay slurs as insults. Having a straight, homophobic wrestler awkwardly pretending to be gay once every while would be so bad. It's much better to just have a gay wrestler whose gimmick isn't just "gay wrestler." Darren Young is a great person to have on the roster for that, and also because the PTPs are awesome.

Didn't see a thread about this, but um yeah good thing they shot it down. That would of been the end of Brock for sure. THE GAY COMMUNITY?

Meh, Billy and Chuck bored me too much, even when 3 Minute Warning got involved. Doubt if Lesnar had the gimmick instead I would've been interested, unless they booked it better.

Being a Gay wrestler shouldn't be a gimmick.

But that doesn't mean they need to be Rico or TNA's Orlando Jordan if they're gay. Exactly, Mickie James comes to mind she was a lesbian but after the Trish thing ended she did any romance angles with men must either meaning WWE wants us to forget the lesbian gimmick or Mickie was supposed to be bisexual. However, again you're right they don't need to be like Rico or TNA's Orlando Jordan. WWE didn't make Darren Young any different when he came out as gay and it's not like WWE didn't care for it. They did they did an interview with him on WWE.com and his gimmick didn't change in the slightest.

Why does WWE want everyone to be gay? Probably for the same reason that Vince pushed real hard for an incest angle with Stephanie for so many years.
