Which figures sell in your area? The figures you like, right? What figures sell in my area ? Pretty much the same as everyone else to varying degrees. What does not sell are these crappy gimmick toys. Since mattel last year lost a ton of money on barbie dolls not selling you would think they would learn there lesson. Yeah Barbie dolls. Whoever thought of those.... Morons.....they were never going to sell......for 50 years.... Do you know the difference between losing money and making less than before?

Yes, I work in Equity derivatives. the answer to my question was no then... Sales fell. Profits fell. The company still made money. Fundamental difference, and reflective of the economy at large. Deflation is here.

I think what we forget is that this is a kids toy line. Kids love new stuff. Mattel just get it wrong a lot. I don't mind we still get our basics, battkepacks and elites. Also our AWESOME! Defining Moments.

Deflation is here. A 59 % drop in income would kill smaller toy companies and a lot of other non toy companies. That kind of massive loss from one year to another is not good. Kids are playing with smartphones and tablets more and more. So i would not expect sales to magically improve any time soon.

I suggest you stop reading poorly cherry picked news articles, and read the actual results from the quarter you refer to. Mattel 2014 4th quarterBarbies sales down 12%. Hot wheels up 5% Worldwide sales down 6% including a poor FX adjustment. Profit and revenue down a lot compared to the previous 4th quarter yes. But they held steady first quarter. I agree with your last point. I also see a rebound in the future when parents realise they are numbing their kids brains.

Now not so much, at best barbie sales will be flat this year or a small improvement. Also if mattel could keep there toys lead free and avoid recalls that would really help. But again my main argument was barbie dolls are not selling so why make a wwe version barbie dolls they sell even worse by a factor of 5 fold or 10 ? How is that good for mattel's bottom line ? Every one commenting on this thread are saying the same thing.

Attn: Mattel. You could save money if you didn't paint the eyebrows. And think of all the money you'd save if you didn't have to put those dots in for eyes. And do kids really need the wrist bands and end elbow pads painted on? Probably not.
