I suggest you stop reading poorly cherry picked news articles, and read the actual results from the quarter you refer to. Mattel 2014 4th quarterBarbies sales down 12%. I agree with your last point. I also see a rebound in the future when parents realise they are numbing their kids brains. I disagree with you there about a rebound, back in 1950 barbies where new cool and high tech toys. Now not so much, at best barbie sales will be flat this year or a small improvement. Also if mattel could keep there toys lead free and avoid recalls that would really help. But again my main argument was barbie dolls are not selling so why make a wwe version barbie dolls they sell even worse by a factor of 5 fold or 10 ? How is that good for mattel's bottom line ? Every one commenting on this thread are saying the same thing. Because they still make money. You don;t stop making something because it makes less than before, you stop making it when you are losing money. 12% sales decline does not equal a loss on something that has been using the same design forever and a day.

They are for kids, you don't have to buy em.
For me personally, I don't pay Mattel's bills nor do I have toy manufacturing experience. So I let them make the toys, and I buy what I want. It's a successful relationship.

Barbies are still selling for now, wwe version barbies are not selling. They where all marked down at every retail store that have sold they first wave. Some stores marked them down multiple times and some stores sent these figures to goodwill stores. Goodwill stores are the last stop for unsold toys here in the states. So demand for these figures are little to none.

If stores stop buying a line, Mattel stops making it. From what Ive seen in my stores lately, looks like Mattel will stop making Elites soon...

If stores stop buying a line, Mattel stops making it. These figures don't sell, and did not sell in my area same with flexforce and all that other hot garabage. It just defies all logic, they don't sell and stores have to mark them down and get rid of them... The line with Sheamus, ADR, and Sin Cara was marked down until they were legit cheaper than basics. The stores are losing money at that point because they've got to be selling them at or under the wholesale price. Mattel already made their money by selling them to the stores. Now the retail stores are losing money because they bought a bunch of garbage.

You would think retail stores losing tons of sales to amazon, ebay, etc would not be this dumb to bring this garbage back into stores where they did not sell at all the first go round...

I would have bet my life that this line was cancelled. Kinda glad it isn't. I'll be getting the shirtless rock. Can't tell if vena has the same scan as his last 10 inch fig. If not I'll get one of the cenas too.

People complaining at the production of something they are not obligated to buy. Great. Wonderful. What a great use of time

The only people who bought 12 inch figures for me when I was a kid were adult relatives who didn't know what I liked or kids whose parents picked out the gift for my birthday parties.
Seriously, I liked Power Rangers, but what mind you think I wanted a 12 inch Ranger?
