I've recently rewatched the Scream films and have been on a bit of a slasher kick recently as a result. But all of the slasher films I've watched since simply pale in comparison to the Scream films (especially the first 2).
Anyone else love the hell out of Scream and Scream 2? Are there any other slasher films that measure up?

I think Scream and Scream 4 set the bar respectively. Scream 4 is INSANELY under-appreciated. Scream 3 does get one "best of" nod, and it's the opening sequence.
The entire Cotton sequence is a perfect blend of horror, suspense, comedy and a nice bit of Creed inclusion. Plus Cotton just ended up being a hell of a character.
The Scream series is easily my favorite slasher series. And I don't think there's been a TRULY quality slasher flick since Scream 4. See No Evil 2 wasn't an abomination, and I do love the Soskas work, but it was REALLY short.
It depends how far back you're looking to go, and what you haven't seen etc, to make any recommendations. There is only one Scream, truly. The first movie is in a class of it's own with the top eschelon of horror. It changed the game when it came out, and reinvigorated a genre/sub-genre that was barely alive outside of b-movie straight-to-VHS flicks.

I think the first Scream film has to be one of the greatest films of all time. I loved the concept of two killers to keep the fans confused. It was great cause my brother had went as the Ghost-face the year before the movie came out. So I hung the mask on my wall. I used to have a Scream 2 t-shirt. I have a Ghost-face figure. I've seen em all in theaters. Loved the first. Enjoyed the other 3.

I think aside from the fact that two killers was so genius that it pushes the first film above the rest, Scream 2 is every bit as good of a horror film as the first. Scream 3 was weak, but like you said that opening sequence is easily the best of all the films.

It's funny cause me and my friend Daniel were going to see Beavis & Butt-head Do America, but we thought we'd see Scream first and make it a double feature. I hardly remember watching B&Bh because I could not stop thinking about Drew Barrymore's scene. Never had a movie started off with such a violet beginning.

Scream 4 is deathly underrated.
Scream is one of the best slashers ever, if not the best.

I wish they made the scream they have on MTV into Scream 5. But have the new main blonde girl as Sydney the police guy as Dewey and the reporter as Gale. It'd be so much better! Keep the first two who die in the T.V series make sure Kirby is proven to be either dead or alive and finally just keep all the current characters.
Also with Slasher films have you seen any of the I know what you did last Summer's? There terrible compared to Scream but are Okay I guess. And finally watch any of the Friday the 13th's?

I've seen a few F the 13ths, I don't hate the remake they did in 2009 but it gets a little silly. I quite like both IKWYDLS's. They're nowhere near Scream level but they're not that bad for mindless slashers. They're better than films like H20 and Cherry Falls. Scream 3 would have been a lot better if it wasn't for columbine. They originally wanted Stu (Scream 1 killer) to have survived and to have orchestrated the killings from prison. Would have been an awesome twist and have been a much better way of "going back to the roots" than the way they did it IMO.

Is it dumb? Is it just full of sex?

Cherry Falls was dull, to me.
Friday the 13th you want to go with 1, 3, 4, 6 or the remake
Halloween 1/2, 6 (if only for Paul Rudd), H2O and Resurrection are all at least watchable. The 2nd half of Rob Zombie's first Halloween, too.
Childs Play 1,2 are good. 3 is watchable. 4 is watchable because it's over the top and ridiculous. Seed of Chucky is horrid, and Curse of Chucky is watchable.
Nightmare on Elm Street 1, New Nightmare are good. 3,4,6, Remake are watchable. 2,5 are -- yeah.
See No Evil 1,2 are both surprisingly decent.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the original/remake are both good. 2, Next Gen, Beginning are watchable but not good. Texas Chainsaw is horrid.
Slashers are REALLY hit and miss.

Oh man, the first Scream is one of the best films ever, no doubt in my mind and there shouldn't be doubt in anyone elses!
Its an incredible story, creates so much tension, the stakes get higher with every scene, so many twists and turns; Im not a horror fan per-say, but I do love the first Scream, and the second isn't bad either, the third I didn't like as much and still haven't watched the fourth cause tbh all I heard was negativite reviews about it :/

I dunno why he'd even worry about her. Emma freakin' Roberts is in it! And... She's damn fine too. I've always been partial to Neve Campbell too. Very attractive woman. The first is a GEM and was my generations Halloween in the sense of it setting the standard for Slashers and putting the Horror genre back on the map.
Such a great movie.
I dont enjoy 2 and 3 as much as 1 or 4 but they are still great despite that.

Count me in the camp that thinks Scream 4 is criminally under rated. Thought it was fantastic, above 2 for me. I love the series. I honestly think 3 is good too, albeit the weakest of the group. Scream was just incredibly self aware, and that's what makes it so special imo. They'll likely never be another like it, especially not an entire run of films like 1-4.
There are some pieces, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, Final Destination, H2O, Urban Legend, and stuff of the same time and similar genre but nothing that comes in a box set. Nightmare and Halloween are two of my favorites but you definitely have to cherry pick from the best. Too many other films that followed either fell into the cheap knockoff or spoof categories. No other film series has ever walked that line between horror and self aware comedy the way Scream did. It carved out a genre we didn't even know we wanted, The Breakfast Club meets Pyscho.
