So I'm looking at the loose pictures avaliable for the new Elite 39 Sting figure, and it has me asking the same question that I've been asking for about six months now.
What is the point of making a T-Shirt Sleeves mold if they are just going to poorly paint the sleeve on instead?
When Mattel first took over, one of the things we all seemed elated about what the idea of creating a mold specifically for a certain wrestler like Evan Bourne's boots or adjusting certain molds to help with height accuracy. This was a godsend compared to Jakks, who could put those damn Snow Boots on any DA Figure despite having a fully useable Kicker mold that nine times out of ten would look better and be more authentic.
So here we are, about six years since that change, and I can't really explain this. The painted sleeves just look tacky, in my opinion. I have a few figures that have the Sleeves mold and I really don't see an issue with joint movement or posing. Not to mention just looking better because, you know, there's actually sleeves there.
I can't be the only one that raises an eyebrow when a clearly surperior (and typically very obvious) part choice is ignored in place of just painting over it instead?

Maybe they wanted to bulk up senior citizen Sting's arms to keep up appearances. I thought the recent Jerry Lawler basic's arms were bulky, but they seem thin enough to work with Sting's jacket.

I don't get it, either. They have the Battle Packs Tommy Dreamer t-shirt sleeve mold that's been around since the first year Mattel took over, yet for every t-shirt figure they choose to paint the sleeves on instead. Just totally bizarre.

Dreamer's arms wouldn't work for any with arms larger than the Punk/Bryan arms.

Dreamer's arms wouldn't work for any with arms larger than the Punk/Bryan arms. I still would've preferred it for E39 Sting over the oversized arms they gave him. They were fine for his DM figure, but the dude is in his 50s now.

A new mold would've been the way to go, but it seems like Mattel is going to continue to give all of his current figures those large arms because of their "once we change a part, we can't go back" rule.

Just totally bizarre. They said the reason that they didn't use that is because it wouldn't work for bigger guys like Cena & HHH so rather than have half of them have the molded sleeves, they just went with no mold across the board to save money on needing to make a new mold. Not saying whether it's a good or bad thing but it's not that "bizarre."

I think it's so his arms fit inside the jacket easily. If they had the sleeve mold by the time they released APA, I'm glad they didn't use it, because if they went back to sleeveless they'd have flesh clothes like Emma and that one MVP.

If they had the sleeve mold? Tommy Dreamer was released in Battle Packs 4 with it. And King had a new one several series ago...

And while maybe not everyone's arms would look appropriate, there's plenty of people it would work for. Or, just a thought, make a bigger mold for those wrestlers? Because painted on looks like ****.

So, rather than just making a larger sleeve mold that they could get just as much use out of, they decided to completely do away with a part that they've had designed for years? Dumb.
