The low viewership numbers for Raw and Smackdown are not the only problem for WWE. The attendance at shows is dropping. Fans at the Smackdown taping on Tuesday noted that the entire upper arena was tarped off and half of the upper deck was tarped off at the 10/6 tapings in Philadelphia. They drew just 3,000 fans for the show this week.
The Wrestling Observer notes that the 10/26 Raw in San Diego has sold 6,000 tickets. The arena is set up for 8,500 fans. That is the post-Hell in a Cell edition of Raw. They did draw 10,000 fans in Chicago for Raw this week but they were a few thousand fans short of a sell out even though they announced that they sold out the arena. Chicago is a hot wrestling town but they didn’t seem as hot as in the past. Keep in mind that they usually sell out Raw when they are in Chicago. It’s hard to use the Chicago Cubs as an excuse because they usually sell out months in advance.

This doesn't really surprise me.
SD tickets are just not worth it imo anymore because the show really doesn't matter much.
I still watch every week but I got my FF button ready to press at a moment's notice (same goes for Raw)...
They really need to figure out a way to make SD mean more because if not then this trend will only get worse.

SmackDown will be looking like TNA and GFW tapings before long.

Im surprised 3000 people paid for a ticket! There is way too much WWE on TV, people should be suffering from burn out.

I only watched SmackDown during the brand split and haven't watched a single episode since.

I'll be honest I don't think I would bother to go to a SD show if I had free tickets.

I'll be honest I don't think I would bother to go to a SD show if I had free tickets. I get free tickets any time WWE is in Miami at AAA. Last time they were here was for SD and after it was over I genuinely wished I had done something else that night. I mean WWE barely manages to put a passable product together with the full roster on Raw. Why on Earth do we assume they can conceivably offer value with a portion of that same roster on a show they give zero sh*ts about... When Raw is terrible, and it has been for weeks on end, people are going to lose interest. We're starting to see people lose interest in every area of WWE. Wrestling is as uncool as it's been since 1995.

They don't do a good job of making you want to be a part of the action right now at all.

why would you want to go to Smackdown when you just saw the same things the night before on RAW? why would you want to go to Smackdown when you know you're gonna see the same things the night before on RAW?

The fact that they're advertising "tickets still available" weekly on Raw for big markets (Chicago) pretty much says it all.

I am still not getting where people are getting that WWE will be in the same boat as TNA within 6 months. Heads up, the RAW viewership average for this year (2.73) is about 46.3% of where the average ratings were in 1999 (5.9). Last year they averaged a 2.95 rating, meaning that it took them 15 years to cut their highest weekly viewership in half, or a loss of 3.4% a year. They are losing viewership at a steady rate, not over half their viewers in a year.
They are losing viewers and money, but they aren't going going out of business. The Network and/or Merchandise must still be doing well as their Stock is still $5.91 higher than it was to the day last year.

I'll be honest with this here. I spent $85 to go to MSG and sit in the middle of the arena.
A week later, I went to Atlantic City, gambled, filled my tank, drank, went into a club and met Hulk Hogan. And that didn't even run me as much as going to MSG!
I think people are realizing WWE is slacking and there are much better things to do than spend money to go to a piss-poor half assed wrestling show.

They tape like what? 1:15 of matches for Smackdown? Plus a couple jobber matches for Main Event? Really not worth paying TV taping prices for less than 2 hours of TV, almost all of which is filler or repeats of Raw. Daniel Bryan is right, they really need to have something exclusive to Smackdown to make it special. Otherwise, what's the point? Honestly, they might have to consider taking NXT on the road with Smackdown and taping a new show each week at this point. I know it would make it feel less special to the viewer, but at least it would help the gate?
