I kinda forgot about Marty Jannetty there for a minute. Guy was a great wrestler and was blown away by a match that he'd had with Angle in 2005. I was happy to see that they gave him 20 minutes with Angle in a very close back and forth match. If you weren't a fan or didn't have knowledge of the business, you would've thought Jannetty could have been the next champ! He was 45 then and looked impressive. He'd worked a comeback program with Shawn Michaels as the Rockers, but unfortunately, that was derailed by a DUI (I believe). Anyway, check out the match and I might try to snag a Mattel set of the Rockers!

I already had a thread about Marty Jannetty on here about a month or so ago. It didn't get over well. Though only a small portion seem to have issues with Marty on here, but I still think the dude was incredible. He and Shawn were on par in the Rockers, and if drugs and partying didn't mess him up so bad in the 90s, Marty could have been IC Champion multiple times, and probably Tag Champion multiple times with the likes of the 123 Kid and Razor Ramon if needed.

Talent-wise, one of the most miss-rated and miss-understood wrestlers of all time. Agreed.

Janetty had the talent, no doubt. He just wasn't given the opportunity to use it in the same way as Michaels.

I stand by my comments from the Jannetty thread from last month. If he kept himself in check with his issues, he would have been my pick for HBK's post Diesel primary heel during his first WWF Title run. A heel Marty could have been a perfect opponent for Shawn for 2-3 IYH main events. After that program ends, put the IC strap on him. I agree with the opinion that Marty would not have connected with the audience as a face on nearly the level Shawn did. But i saw his heel stuff in USWA. No question he would have got over in that capacity in WWF. Especially for a summer run with Michaels in 96.

I loved Jannetty. Had he stayed clean he could have had a drastically better career. That match with Kurt was so good. I had hoped it would lead to him getting a full time backstage job with WWE. But unfortunately, it didn't.

MJ was incredibly talented and I liked him a lot. His issues impaired his becoming one of the ebst in WWF at the time though.
The guy would have been a perfect foil for Razor etc at the time.....especially in 95 when they had no heels.

He was my favorite Rocker when I was a kid. Damn shame what ended up happening to him. Wish he could've at least stayed in ECW for a while.

Janetty had the talent, no doubt. He just wasn't given the opportunity to use it in the same way as Michaels. I do agree with that. HBK was an entirely new gimmick to push Shawn. Marty was essentially just a single Rocker.

I remember this match leading up the Mania. The match he and HBK had on RAW with, I think, La Resistance (?) was also very good, and it was cool to have a Rockers reunion for one night only. I thought I remembered at the time that they were going to keep Jannetty around for a while, but he went back to having problems with pills/alcohol again and they nixed the idea shortly after. But that may have been a rumor.
