I was listening to their shoot interview they did with Highspots a while back and it was interesting to hear how they lost their jobs at WWE. While the Hebner brothers had many good things to say about Vince over the years and how he looked after them it was a different story when they go into detail how they lost their jobs. Dave Hebner in particular was clearly pissed. He said he sent a letter to Vince's secretary explaining what happened and wanted Vince to get back to them but Vince never responded. They may have a point, I mean working for Vince for 20 odd years and never putting a foot wrong and then one mistake on their part and they are gone without even getting to explain the right way of things to Vince, I think they can feel hard done by. Anyway Earl said he was ready to retire shortly before got fired from WWE saying his body was banged up from all the bumps sliding about in the ring over the years and that he was done with wrestling...then he ends up as a referee in TNA. Are the Hebners full of crap or whats the story with them? Its not a bad shoot interview if you havent seen it, go check it out.

I miss Earl. What an entertaining referee. I screwed Bret. Haha! I miss the old Earl, really. He clearly should have retired. In TNA he needs to push off of the wrestlers to even stand up from making a count. I really like Earl, always have since I was a kid, but he might need to hang it up. Maybe ref one more HHH match and then that's it.

When I went to a TNA House Show a few years ago, Earl was selling his "I Screwed Bret" T-shirt. I thought it was pretty lame and classless, but hey, the guy likes to sell shirts!

I may just have to check out these shoots. I guess if anyone knew what went on backstage for 20 entire years, it'd be them.
But I definitely do NOT miss Earl Hebner. He was great as a foil to heels getting in his face, standing up to them and such. So he was entertaining like that. But for everything else - his timing became so bad it is cringeworthy every time I see him.
I have seen many times in the Attitude era where he would count to 2 and stop even before the guy kicked out. Him and Kurt Angle (notorious for last possible moment to kick out, almost missing his cue every time) are just terrible in that regard.
Fast forward to TNA and today, he still does it, so you can plain as day see it and it just makes me roll my eyes. Plus when he's meant to be distracted for a heel to use a weapon/low blow, he will accidentally turn back around and catch the dirty deed in plain sight and VOLUNTARILY turn his head away for no reason to "not see it". All because he misses his cue and turns back around too soon.
Just amateur. There are many better refs out there than him, who don't even get mentions.
But like I said, he's still entertaining as a ref.

So.....
Will Earl Hebner ever be in the WWE Hall of Fame?
Who should be the first referee to be inducted? You know it's going to happen eventually....

Joey Marella Dave and Earl Hebner - put them both in together Tim White Charles Robinson - for contribution to both WWE and WCW. Plus he was Little Naitch! Danny Davis Nick Patrick Dick Woehrle ...most won't remember or know that last one, but he was the main/senior ref when I started watching in the early 80's. Older guy, but had a gruffness for him and wouldn't take any crap.

Yeah, I've met Earl a couple of times and he's most unpleasant. Seems like he has a chip on his sholder.

I would say they are full of it. If I recall the merch they were selling was official WWE stuff they were siphoning from the house shows. Earl did mention retirement before he got fired but I doubt he meant it.

Honestly, with the shoot, of course, they'll put it out there like they were the innocent victims, that were unfairly terminated without a chance to explain things. With the years they had with the company, to the point where they even hired Earl's son as a referee, if they got fired over the whole merchandise thing, they to me, it was more than likely justifiable on WWE's part. And if Earl is saying in the shoot, he was getting to retire anyway, that shows some of the crap they're spewing, since I believe it was less than a year after being fired, that he's refing in TNA. As for Earl, I used to be a big fan of his, but it seems the more time passed away from the Montreal Screwjob, the more he seemed to get an ego, and act like he was a big deal. To seem it came off like he thought he was a big deal, and yeah, he was probably one of the most famous wrestling referees around, but the thing is, he's still just a referee.
