I was thinking about all the gimmicks and some wrestlers who made it big after they ditched their gimmick. We are always on creative for killing young wrestler's careers with a bad gimmick. Some get repackaged and some get canned.
One that comes to mind is Batista. He was dominant in OVW and was brought up as Deacon Batista. To think he got moved brands and made it into Evolution. Then became World Champion multiple times and to think he was with D-Von Dudley carrying a box with a chain around his neck.
One that came to mind of people who didn't get a second chance was Muhammad Hassan. He had a really good gimmick that turned bad due to real life events. They just fired him and ended a very promising career.
Who are some other ones that had bad gimmicks and got another chance?
Who are some that should have earned another shot with a different look or gimmick?

Ridding of Hassan was a horrid decision. They should have given him half a year off and have him come back repackaged.

I'll go with the list of talent that I thought got largely screwed: Domino/Cliff Compton - Pretty self explanatory. Domino was the star of the show when he was in WWE, hilarious, and a good worker. He reinvented himself on the Indies and the Cliff Compton character is something that could still work in WWE. He almost had his shot though. Had WWE kept the SES together he would have been apart of it. Serena ed that up for more than just herself. Obviously EC3 - Guy needs to be rehired like yesterday. Easily one of the best total package pro wrestlers in the world right now and WWE could really use his gimmick. Brilliant heel. I think most people thought he was really talented in WWE as well. He hadn't found that gimmick yet but they really missed the boat on him. The Brian Kendrick - He's the man with the plan. He didn't even need to be repackaged. Spanky can make just about anything work and he's a great wrestler. I wouldn't let him go all zen master like TNA did but he's the kind of guy I'd be thrilled to on a weekly basis still. Drew McIntyre - Not sure what the hell anyone was thinking sticking this guy in 3MB but he was way too talented to be in that kind of gimmick. I would have been totally fine had they just Rybacked McIntyre, made him the Chosen one again, and just ignored they ever did anything else with him. What a missed opportunity on a talent imo. He carried an entire angle in TNA on his own. Guy is gifted as hell, has good matches and can talk. I expect him to be back and he's still only 30. Let that sink in for a minute. I would have liked to see Elijah Burke's Pope character in WWE. I don't really know what TNA is doing with him but I think he's a great character. Prior to Hogan coming in, I was 100% positive that Pope was going to be TNA Champion within a year around the back end of 2009. What a mess for him. There are lots of guys. I'm not really sure I understand the Kaval situation but he kind of just ended up in WWE 5 years too soon. Had the landscape in WWE been like it is now, I think he would have done more. Sean O'Haire is a guy I never would have given up on. Maybe he's alive right now had he been used to his potential. I don't know, most of these make me depressed, especially when I think about some of the guys WWE has wasted opportunities on or kept around.

How can you guys forget JBl? Dude was a mid-carder at best who got repackaged, won the WWE title and became a wrestling god.

I'd say Candido did well for himself after the Skip character in WWE. However, that wasn't in the same company.
I'll go with Farooq. His first gimmick as the Space Warrior transforming into the Nation gimmick, and was finished off with the APA gimmick that has stuck the longest. Farooq may have been the first african american World Champion in WCW, but his most known accomplishment or fondest memory will always be DAMN!!! A four ketter word made that man money.

Daniel Bryan for me.
I still forget about the Nexus and tie incident, Bella/Gail Kim fight and loss to Sheamus at Mania.
Weird thinking he became the most over guy in the company after terrible, terrible storylines.
Pretty certain I read the question wrong but whatever.

Dolph Ziggler, lol. "Hi, I'm Dolph Ziggler" - remember that? It was funny as hell, but wouldn't have got him 5+ Midcard titles, matches with Edge for the World title, let alone anywhere near winning the thing. I almost forgot to mention Spirit Squad and the Caddy lol.
The Miz, I mean, I loved him for pretty much his whole career, I just liked the guy. But as cool as it would've been seeing him win the title in his old, shorts, kickpad boots, arm sleeve, glove wearing days, he wouldn't have done in any capacity. Changing over to tights may not have been a huge change in gimmick, but it definitely let some people start taking him more seriously. And even though he's had a few small repackages, he's just about lived them and knocked them out of the park. I wish they would give the Money Maker gimmick more time on a show.

If we include people outside wwe i would also add EC3 to the list
Derrick Bateman sucked but EC3 is one of the best things going in wrestling today

Came in to say Husky into Bray, I mean Husky Harris had a lackluster run, I don't think he stood out much on NXT and he was a bit player in the Nexus and was even less of a threat in the New Nexus under Punk's leadership. Guy goes away, probably being written off by most people, and boom Bray Wyatt is born. It's such a drastic change, he totally revamped himself. In terms of his in ring style, his look, his character, everything and it worked for him. I mean, at best you thought Harris had some potential, but wasn't given enough of a chance to develop himself and find his place on the roster. That's at best, I don't remember what I thought of him exactly, but I'm sure he was far from a "oh man, I look forward to him every week" guy.
But now? He's my favorite guy on the roster and my second favorite act behind the New Day.
