According to Dave Meltzer, Billy Gunn was fired today as a trainer by World Wrestling Entertainment. Gunn, real name Monty Sopp, was fired due to testing positive for elevated levels of testosterone in a powerlifting meet on July 25. Gunn’s drug test at the meet came up with a 37-1 testosterone/epitestosterone ratio, which was well over the 4-1 limit. Due to the failure, he was suspended from powerlifting for four years. WWE officials were not aware of him competing as a powerlifter, or his suspension from the sport, until a few weeks ago.
Gunn has been working as a trainer for WWE since 2012. He had a short main roster comeback with partner Road Dogg in early 2013, but has mainly been working with the NXT brand. He did occasional appearances on the NXT house shows in Florida, and also appeared on television as one of the trainers on Tough Enough and Breaking Ground.
Shame. I never thought much of him as a wrestler/performer, but he seemed to be doing well in his behind the scenes role.

So weird. Especially considering all those years he was on drugs and juicing during the Attitude Era.

As a trainer, it's important for him to be leading by example. I respect WWE for putting their foot down on this one.

I know nothing about testosterone levels but if 4-1 is the maximum and he was at 37-1 then...
Gaht damn.

I liked having Billy around. But if he broke the rules, then I suppose he's gotta go.

Randy Orton can fail 4 drug tests on a 3 strike policy and not get fired. Billy fails one and gets fired.
They should just drop the E and adapt H as their new company name. World Wrestling Hypocrites.

World Wrestling Hypocrites. Not saying it's right but...Randy Orton has been one of their major players for a decade now. He makes them money...well, did at least. Billy Gunn is....a trainer in NXT who could (and will) be placed tomorrow with ________. Again, not saying it's right. It isn't. But WWE is going to do what they want to do.

World Wrestling Hypocrites. They pretty much bent the rules for Randy Orton if I remember right. CM Punk mentioned that whole "if you pass this test, they take away one of your strikes" or something. Randy Orton is, in their minds, very important to the company, so they protect him. Like, if John Cena did steroids, they would protect him over an NXT trainer. It isn't right, but still.

Why the would you piss test your trainers for PEDs haha? That's such a strange situation. And yeah, seems to me that lots of workers in WWE are on the gas, like HHH, for the better part of 20 years. So it always blows me away when someone gets scapegoated into a release that way. WWE is entertainment. I don't have the slightest idea why they have a PED policy. The Rock is obviously on HGH. He's an actor, over 40, and it's totally fine with me. Billy Gunn can legally have HGH prescribed to him. Why is this even an issue? Ryback is on the sauce and he sucks? It's not like it makes you better at your job. This isn't the 80s. Just a crazy double standard by WWE.

I am not shocked by this at all.
I watched the Sting vs. Triple H match from Wrestlemania again yesterday, and when DX came running out you could see Billy Gunn was huge then. No man his age should be built the way he is without some extra help.
That being said, it's a shame that in a sport that is considered 'fake' by everyone except its fans, that they can't use substances to help maintain the body they need to make money in this 'fake' sport. Some things I will never understand I guess.

This sucks. I always liked his opinion on the up and coming talent. I guess I have a hard time understanding the fact that top talent can violate the policy and be slapped on the wrist, but others are fires on the spot. Is WWE so quick on releases in fear of media outbreak? Sounds like there's more thanone akeleton in the closet they don't want found.

Wow.
Entertainers or not...
Do you really want more wrestlers dying under age 40?
Clearly they shouldn't be using steroids. Goodness, people.

Wonder if Vince gets tested regularly? I understand they want to set an example, it sucks for him though. Im sure he was a great help with younger talent.
