One of my favourite PPVs was the original Battle Bowl: Lethal Lottery at Starcade '91 but I seem to recall this wasn't a home run with fans or the wrestlers involved. It was a pretty cool and fresh concept at the time though.
As staged as it was with the random tag teams, the possibilities were potentially endless to see tag team members against each other or future feuds start to brew between "randomly" thrown together tag teams to advance to battle bowl. Battle Bowl itself wasn't revolutionary with the over-the-top-rope battle royale, but I can't help but think what a kickstarter to some storylines it would be in this day and age.

In 1991 the Battle Bowl lottery wasn't staged completely from what I heard. A lot of the picks were actually random. It was Dusty Rhodes idea. That is why some of the matches completely sucked because they had no time to discuss over the match.
The 1992 one was good, I didn't mind it at all.
The 1993 one had potential but I never cared for it.
The 1996 one was probably the worst one of them all.

The concept seems fine, but for me, it didn't usually translate to good shows. I find it ironic that the 1996 Lethal Lottery was the most obviously pre-determined of them all, however it was by far the worst edition.

I enjoyed the concept of Battle Bowl.

Very unique and, from my point of view, entertaining concept. I enjoyed the first 3. The 93 edition will always be my favorite overall. The Flair and Austin team up and the Vader and Cactus team up were fun. The Hawk and Rip Rogers vs Booker and Davey Boy match was proto Russo booking, but it was still kind of funny to see. I kinda wish Rogers would have won the whole thing. Lol. I will also say that I MUCH preferred the Lethal Lottery/Battlebowl to the World War 3 concept. WW3 was generally a mess to watch. The Lethal Lottery/Battlebowl combo was the closest thing to the Royal Rumble that WCW ever had.

But yeah I heard the first one wasn't staged also. I prefer 92. 93 is alright.

All 75 announcers screaming and no one ever knowing the names of some of the guys being eliminated. Or who was still in for that matter

That was when Sullivan and the Dungeon of Doom legit kicked the crap out of him because Sullivan found out Benoit really was ing Nancy.

Yeah the horsemen and the dungeon didn't even make it to the match lol. They brawled around the ring until they ended up back in the back. I loved world war 3 shows, but it got sort of stale knowing an nWo member would win it every single year and then Hogan would never give them the title shot. Hall got screwed.

I loved the original one. I especially loved the random tag teams being chosen. I'd like to see more of that to be honest.

What I always wanted to see were face teams like the Steiners facing off against each other. That would have been amazing watching Rick and Scott facing off against each other for a few minutes or Hawk vs Animal.

Don't get your hopes up though. The show is terrible.

Yes we did get the Steiners, but it wasn't what I was hoping for. There was a couple suplexs from Scott and a Steiner line from Rick, but I am talking them beating down on each other and hitting suplex after suplex. That would have torn the house down. But I don't remember Hawk and Animal nailing one another with haymakers at a battlebowl.

One of the greatest concepts for a match/event ever. The first was awesome. The only complaint is they should have used it as its own event and not taken away from Starrcade. The 2nd & 3rd ones were ok. I would have liked more men even though going down to 1 ring was alright. The 4th version was just awful. Maybe its because it was gone for so long. They really could have made this their Royal Rumble. Winner could fight the Champion at Starrcade.

I agree however, that Battlebowl should have been booked as its own show instead of going on at Starrcade. I get the first one being launched at that event, but it should have morphed into its own ANNUAL event where it would have gained serious steam during the Monday Night War era. One of Dustys (i believe) big creations that had legs if handled right. But like so many other things in WCW (which i loved by the way) no one had a commitment to the idea.

I always liked the idea of the random teams being put together, but definitely didn't like the idea of 2 rings for eliminations

It was SUCH a cool PPV.
How great would it be nowadays to be doing this? Just try it for one PPV. I guarantee it would get such great reception. WWE is too dull to ever be this creative now. Everything is so staged; even tournaments have to of course show us the guys in active feuds, no randomness whatsoever.
