I'll still never forget going into a Toys R' Us when I was like 4 years old and seeing the huge Hasbro display they had. The figure display wasn't anything flashy, just rows that were very wide and seemed to go all the way up to the roof of the Toys R' Us store. I was more into Batman and X-Men at the time, so I never really looked at the wrestlers much but I still knew the big guys at the time like Hogan, Warrior, Macho, etc.
My mom wound up taking me and my sister to Toys R' Us to get my dad a few Hasbros for his birthday. I remember us agreeing instantly on Doink the Clown since it looked like such a cool figure. "Man I hope dad opens this so I can play with the hair" was what I thought. I think we also got him an Undertaker figure, Bam Bam Bigelow was up for debate but we opted out. Aww man, this memory is still just so fresh in my mind.

I remember when my grandma would bring me and often my cousin to TRU and we'd go look for wrestlers. I remember where the LJNs were kept during their height of popularity, then toward the end they were moved to the front/right of the store. I remember us picking out certain ones which to this day I still think of as the coolest, because they were "new" and not very common like the others which always sat on the pegs. For instance, Honky, OMG, and DiBiase come to mind. Then there's the time I went in and no big rubber wrestlers were to be found! Did a search at the old LJN location and there were the Hasbros. I got Hulk, Andre, and DiBiase from Series 1 that day, and can clearly remember going back often and to other stores looking for certain ones. Crazy but I remember a lot about which I got where, all the way up to the last blue card series from which I only got Giant Gonzalez. I had Razor and Shawn from the yellow series and never saw the variants in stores. I would have picked up both, they were always cool as hell! On a sad note, I also remember when I first came across the Jakks figures in stores and that was it for me

Okay, those are great photos, butwhere in the world were those vintage photos taken and who was bringing in cameras to a toy store then(apparently pretty decent cameras considering the quality of the photos versus the years they must have been taken) ? Those are MASSIVE displays. I never saw anything close to that at any of the stores I went to as a kid. The lack of variety in wrestling related product of the 80s and 90s would have necessarily made wrestling toy displays like that pretty much non-existent. I recall some great ones I wish I'd have photographed at TRU right around the time of the Hasbro red card series and at Hills in the mid-90s with probably 100+ dark blue and green carded figures, but again, there was no such thing as cell phone camera at the time and anyone taking pics of toys with a big old camera probably would have been flagged as some sort of potential offender or another!
