Surprised that Mad Max is near the top of the pack for nominations, though it's EXTREMELY well deserved!

Surprised that Mad Max is near the top of the back for nominations, though it's EXTREMELY well deserved! It came as a surprise. I knew it would receive nominations, but not ten!

I feel like Michael B Jordan(Creed) and Will Smith(Concussion) were snubbed this year. And I also feel like Creed and concussion Should've been nominated for Best Film.

One nomination for Creed is fair. Sylvester Stallone's performance is what stood out most. Disappointed to see Smith and Concussion snubbed. Hell of a movie. I've yet to see Concussion.

I am SUPER happy The Revenant over performed with a leading 12 nominations! I really want it to win Best Picture and or Best Director to go along with the locks it is winning in Best Actor for Leo and Best Cinematography. Sadly Alejandro won 3 Oscars last year for The Birdman so a lot of people in the Academy may not want to give him like 5 Oscars in 2 years.. I think that is a BS way to look at things but it happens and will likely mean The Revenant will not win Best Picture or Best Director.

The problem is the Best Actor category was pretty stacked and while the same is true for Supporting Actor Stallone got some precursors and won the Golden Globe (although that happened AFTER the Oscar noms were locked in).

He got some other nominations like a Golden Globe one but yeah this year was just not a good one for him. I think he'll win an Oscar eventually so don't get too sad.

That Mad Max is nominated for Best Picture, yet Creed, Straight Outta Compton, and Force Awakens are not, is absolutely criminal.
Looks like I'll only be watching this year for the In Memorium segment, and hoping Leo/Sly walk away with theirs.

I rarely agree with top Hollywood blockbusters being nominated (because usually they're not deserving), but I absolutely think Star Wars should have been nominated. Straight Outta Compton, as well.
I've already seen 5 out of 8 best pictures nominees, which is pretty solid. I'll be seeing The Revenant soon (hopefully this weekend), and will catch Bridge of Spies when it hits Blu-Ray in a couple of weeks. Not sure I'll get to Brooklyn. I was really surprised to see that get nominated.
I wouldn't have minded seeing Joy get a nomination. I thought it was under appreciated by critics.

I'm really only watching to see if Leo finally wins. I mean it has to happen at this point.
Straight Outta Compton was phenomenal and deserves way more love. I would like to see it win best original screenplay.
I can't say I understand the critical acclaim Mad Max is receiving. It was a pretty underwhelming film imo. Great visuals and effects but it's a high octane popcorn flick with very little in the way of screenplay. I liked it, but didn't love it. I didn't think it was better than either of Spectre or Star Wars, and they all fall into that same commercial/genre style category. I'm in favor of those kind of movies getting acclaim and winning awards, it makes award shows look far less stuffy and pretentious, but I don't really understand why this particular film has been treated as special.

I will be seeing Mad Max soon since it can be rented at a Red Box already. Bridge of Spies will likely be seen that way as well. I really wanted to see Room in theaters so hopefully these big nominations bring it back in some near me. Spotlight is still around so I'm for sure seeing it. The other films with top nominations I need to see still include: Steve Jobs, Trumbo, The Danish Girl, Joy, Straight Outta Compton, Creed, 45 Years, and The Hateful 8. So yeah I have a lot of work to do. As for you I would try to see as many of the movies I listed and since you have not seen Brooklyn yet I would recommend it. It was a great movie imo. Ronan could have won in most years but Brie Larson is pretty much unstoppable this year. Ronan's consolation prize may be the BAFTA since it favors British born actors.
