They've had both nine and ten nominees since they switched the Best Picture format, so what was the reason behind leaving Creed, Concussion, Straight Outta Compton, and Force Awakens off the list?
I also just noticed Jurassic World didn't get a nod for Visual Effects. Really?

I've only seen the Martian and Mad Max, so I've got some catching to do.
Super excited to see Stallone nominated even though he's going against some great talent.
I know there's always snubs, but I'm surprised that Tarantino didn't get a nomination for best original screenplay. Usually every year he has a movie, he always gets a nomination it seems. I know it's taboo or seems to be against comedy, but I thought Amy Schumer should have had a best original screenplay nomination

Was really hoping for Adam McKay. It could have been his make-up Oscar for Step Brothers.

I legitimately thought they were joking when they announced Spotlight as best picture. The Revenant seemed like a total lock to me.
I was pleasantly shocked, though. Spotlight was brilliant, socially relevant, and in my opinion, firmly rooted in the category of "must-see" from a cultural standpoint. While The Revanant was very good (and Leo undoubtedly deserved his Oscar for it), I don't think the film, as a whole, held up to Spotlight, or even The Martian for that matter.
I had The Revenant as fourth of the eight nominees (Spotlight, The Martian, and Mad Max ahead of it) and fifth overall (I'd rank Star Wars, which wasn't nominated, ahead of it as well.)

I thought it was a joke, too. Morgan Freeman's announcement sounded sarcastic. I love Spotlight. I saw it in theatres and own it on Blu-ray, and have no problem with it winning, but The Revenant, to me, was the clear choice. Its themes were just as important. It's a film about the human condition, our relationship with nature, and the treatment of native Americans.

I disagree. Sam Smith for "Writing's on the Wall" was the right choice, and I even called it before the nominees were announced.
