I started collecting around March 2015 so am reasonably new however I noticed something with the recent releases that's strange. Wrestlers go a year without a new figure, I'm talking outside of the main event, yet in recent line ups we've seen a wrestler have up to 3 figures in the different series with only a few months separating the releases (Elite, Basic and Battle Pack). Examples being Tyson Kidd, Dean Ambrose and Kevin Owens (who will be due an elite soon).
Is this oversaturation? Will you buy more than one of these figures and if not do you like the choice or are they wasted releases?

I think it is personally. I don't collect basics just elites but the only time I get a basic is when I find a better looking headscan or find a part I need. Other than that, I agree I think if they're going to release multiple versions of that figure they should at least change the headsculpt. I remember early in the line we would get a basic headscan and an elite.

I would if it was people we didn't need like I wanted an elite Tyson Kidd... that didn't suck I'm all about an elite Kevin Owens and like the new day a all in elite will be amazing... I don't mind when it's somebody I don't have I now own basic and Battle Pack Kevin Owens and will buy the elite but personally have been waiting for Owens to get to the WWE forever so he's a big want now if they were doing this with somebody like Rollins and all black then yeah I would be upset but each Ambrose they've released has had a different outfit and a different head scan.... I hope they do the same thing with AJ and Samoa Joe

Yeah, if the figures are practically identical, like Big Show, Kane, Cena, Reigns, and Orton, but you could argue that lots of people want them since they're on tv constantly and it could be their first step into collecting.
Kidd and Owens aren't bad because Kidd's attires are all unique(and amazing) and Owens has yet to wear out his welcome, Ambrose, well his figures have been a bit "cookie cutter", but they at least change the shirt designs and headsculpt frequently so it's worth adding to the collection usually. For me, I'll pick up a figure as long as there's at least a tiny difference between releases, for instance I bought the Kmart exclusive Barrett, even though I have the E34 figure because the basic has a wrapped fist.
One I wish they'd cool down on is Daniel Bryan, I like the person, but there's so darn many out that look alike, I honestly couldn't tell you which series each figure came from. It's sad, because he really was a big deal not too long ago and those figures probably would've moved by now if he was still an active wrestler.

The only thing I think is oversaturated is the number of four horsemen sets are on the shelves at all the targets around me

Just because I might not want something doesn't make it a wasted release as there are plenty of collectors and kids who will want them.

It's pretty much always been that way with new characters. The basic comes out and then two-three months later the elite does. Then they pop up in a battle pack with a better attire than the first basic. I wouldn't call it over saturation.
What IS oversaturation is the amount of Elite 38 APA and Elite 33 Junkyard Dog, basic 50 and 53, and battle packs 35/6 at my Walmarts.

I don't think Kidd, Ambrose, or KO are over saturated....Kidd just recently got some new figures after years of not having any, Ambrose is a top fan favorite on TV right now, & KO just had his first 2 figures released....but I think guys like DB & CM Punk were over saturated at the end, DB was huge & got injured twice, so Mattel was trying to capitalize on his popularity by pushing out as many as possible, then he got injured & started warming, same with Punk at the time, except he left. The only guy warming in my TRU is E38 DB, Target never restocks in my areA, & Walmart just has an overload of E34 Cena figures

I haven't really ran into anyone from E38 warming except DB. One Wal Mart near me has 8 E38's and like 11 E32's of just him. It's horrible
The ONLY other things I see in that type of shelf warming quantity are B35? Triple H/Bryan (again!) 2 packs, Four Horsemen sets and to an extent HOF 2 Titos
I hope them having to overpack the 3 figures in HOF 3 doesn't come back to bite them in the ass Because after buying them, I'm not at all impressed with the DiBiase figure so I can see some potential for him turning into the next Tito (maybe Jimmy too)

If you really want to have an example of oversaturation, go back a few years with the Shield. We had a Basic, 2 Battle-Packs, 3 Elite's, and a K-Mart 3-pack all released in like 4 months or so.

Have no problem when an elite and basic r announced around the same time cause I can then skip the basic. Like I did with Sami zayn.

Although with me it's the other way around. Don't collect Elites. Love Basics. That said, Mattel seems to overproduce everything. I would gladly pay more to support smaller production runs.

You'll soon notice Mattel does not go 2 months before they release ANOTHER John Cena. To me they are all wasted release. I buy 1 figure of a character and that's it. If I end up with 2 John Cenas it's because I found one on clearance and it's hard for me to pass on a good deal.

I feel lately they are testing the waters with a basic first so that everyone goes and buys that one then they hit you with the elite. They are in the business to make money so it makes sense. I also dont have the patience to wait for anything so I buy it all.
