Long story short, i haven't been home for about a month. While i was gone, there was a leak with the water heater, and it ran continously under the house. I get back home to find the heat and moisture has caused mold/mildew to take over my room. I started the rescue operation today, relocating the figures to another residence. Any advice on what to clean the figures that have any mold/mildew on them? Soap and water? Or will i need something stronger with bleach mixed in? Any advice woud be helpful.
Im asking here first so i don't use something like bleach just in case it can damage the figures paint apps.

Wow I'm sorry homie I cannot imagine at all. I would guess soap and water would do enough justice.

I'm gonna guess that bleach is going to hurt the paint apps. I would go with giving a handful at a time a warm, soapy bath and a delicate but deliberate cleaning. As in don't rub the paint off.
Hopefully the soft goods weren't effected, if so I would just toss them out and buy loose robes and shirts online and cut my losses. I don't think those could be cleaned properly and removing the mold without damaging them.

The one good thing is all soft goods are fine. However several of the basic figures that were on the bottom shelves of the display have got the stuff all over them. Elites ,Legends ,Flashbacks, and DMs are checking out fine thus far. I'm gonna go ahead and attempt soap and water first as i assume that would be the safest way to go. Hopefully, thats all it will take. I've got a nearly complete collection of at least 1 of every character made so far. Can't start over at this point lol.

I'd even try throwing them in the dishwasher. Hopefully the heat will kill off anything that wants to grow on them.

Probably some warm water with some dish soap or something. Bleach is a big no no, the paint will come right off, and if the water is too hot the paint will come off after a couple of minutes. Pretty tricky situation, anything could go wrong.

I had some He-man figures get mildewed before but they were easy enough to clean. Soap/water/wash cloth did the trick. Something stronger like super clean/mean green should be fine too.
A dishwasher may work and be simple. Just take it off a high heat setting though. However, I heat figures in boiling water all the times for 3-5 minutes and the paint isn't affected.
Just try different stuff on some basics first especially stronger cleaner like super clean or the dishwasher. Dishwasher idea is intriguing.
They should come clean just may have to scrub each one with a rag. A magic eraser will take care of anything super stubborn.

Man, that sucks. I would fill my sink/tub up with warm water and soap. Maybe add some vinegar if needed. I've used magic erasers on figures before as well with no issue. Maybe try one figure you aren't too attached to first?

fill your tub with hot soapy water, put all the figs in, let the soak for a little bit and then, 1 by 1, rinse and scrub with a cloth. let them dry and your good to go. if needed spray them with lysol to kill off any further germs

Dude that sucks. Sorry to hear that.
I'd try the soap and water first.

Dawn dish liquid and hot water would be my guess.

The nice thing is the figures have a clear coat on them so mildew can't seep into its pours. However, it is probably inside the figure via cracks and holes on the torso. Cleaning them quickly would be benificial with water. Bleach is the #1 chemical to kill those cells, but, that would strip the paint and could eat at the plastic. Soak them in hot hot water. This will kill most of the mold, then wipe them down. Don't use soap. The soap will get in the cracks and if not washed away will result in soap scum, then mildew. After they are cleaning and dried, leave them out where you can inspect them for a week or two. If all signs of mildew are gone, you're all set. If it comes back, you're collection unfortunately is destroyed.
If you have home owners insurance , you nay be able to get a check for damages. Check into that. I have my Hot Toys collection insured.

I would get a de-humidifier in your room stat. It will get rid of the moisture that is in the air and prevent more mildew from growing. Its nasty to breathe in that stuff.
