Simple topic. What are some matches that underwhelmed you? They don't have to be bad matches, but some that weren't as good you thought it would be.
The first one that comes to mind is Samoa Joe vs. Finn Balor at TakeOver: London. It wasn't bad by any means, but I wanted so much more. They worked it as two guys just having a match instead of as guys who had animosity from their friendship crumbling.
Also, the depressingly bad AJ Lee/Paige feud since I wanted so much more from them.
What about some that were better than expected? Just going off of recent memory, I recall Roman Reigns vs. Big Show at Extreme Rules.
I'll update when I think of more.

The Henry vs Big Show matches from 2011 were WAYY better than I expected. I really enjoyed those matches. Same thing with the Sheamus vs Big Show matches from 2012. Roman Reigns vs Big Show from Extreme Rules also comes to mind.

The very first underwhelming match that immediately comes to mind whenever a topic even remotely similar to this is brought up is: Triple H vs. Randy Orton, Wrestlemania 25. When that match was announced, I sat back and groaned, thinking "we've seen this how many times? And you're going to main event Wrestlemania with it?" Then the build started, and I was just totally, wholeheartedly, 100% engrossed. It was captivating, it pushed the envelope, it felt so personal. ...Then the match happened. it was slow, plodding, uneventful, and completely lacking the emotion and passion that their feud suggested the match should have. It felt like two guys going out there, going through the motions, and just saying, "well, we can't live up to Taker and Shawn, so, it." I don't know that I can recall a time that I've been so letdown by a match, or a conclusion to Wrestlemania. On the other end of the spectrum, John Cena's matches with Umaga came to mind pretty quickly. The Usos vs. The Wyatt Family is another. I wasn't expecting the matches to be bad, but they were tearing the house down for a while. I'm sure I'm missing a lot (on both ends of the spectrum) from the Attitude Era and early Ruthless Aggression era. I was just such a fan at that point that I wasn't thinking particularly critically (plus the logic and storytelling was much stronger), and it's been too long since I've revisited a lot of that stuff.

Underwhelming? Recently, I'll go for Seth Rollins vs Randy Orton Steel Cage match at Extreme Rules. That match was so disappointing. Especially more so that it was Rollins' first defence.
Better than expected? I'll go for Dash/Dawson vs Enzo/Cass from Takeover London. Expected it to be another run of the mill tag title match. Turned out to be the best tag team title match NXT has ever put on.

Underwhelming: Sting vs Triple H. I just had high expectations. Better than expected: Can't think of one.

Underwhelming- 1. Vince Vs Bret at WM 26 2. HIAC HHH Vs HBK Bad Blood 2004 3. Rollins Vs Ambrose at MITB 2015 4. Edge Vs Undertaker WM 24 5. The first Elimination Chamber match at Survivor Series 2002 Better than expected (no particular order)- - The Undertaker Vs The Executioner (I forgot which IYH this happened at) - Trish Vs Victoria at Survivor Series 2002 (never thought that match would be an actual hardcore style match...boy was I wrong) - Hogan Vs The Rock WM X8 (I was super excited for it, but had no idea if it would be any good or not, but its my favorite match ever now) - DDP Vs Christian at WM X8 (I just feel it is a good undercard match that never gets any credit) I could think of many more

So much better than I thought it would be, match of the night at that PPV imo
Underwhelming, definitely Ambrose/Rollins at MITB, that was by far their worst match.

I thought Goldberg vs lesnar would be better than it was made up to be. Both dudes when into that with a crappy attitude and the crowd didn't help. Oh, well. Ambrose vs Wyatt had some terrible matches. Big Show and Sheamus stole the show back in 2012. Big Show, when he wants too, can still go. Sheamus is one of the most under appreciated dudes on the entire roster. He can go. He was just a victim of "too much, too soon."

I expected Styles and Jericho to be much better considering it was a legit dream match for many over the past decade or so. They've had 3 matches now and although none of them were particularly "bad", I was expecting 5 star classics.
But I don't think Jericho's got it in the tank anymore. If you ask me, he's ruined his credibility by jobbing too much. The guy took clean losses against Heath Slater, Fandango and JTG for god sakes.
Beating Chris Jericho means nothing anymore. And I think that's why I'm so uninterested in his matches now. He also comes and goes way too much. It's at the point where I'm even sick of him returning.

Every single Bray Wyatt match is a let down. Better than I expected? Probably the Royal Rumble 2016 and Kevin Owens vs Dean Ambrose from the same event. I knew those two would perform, but damn they really stole the night with their selling and overall storytelling. Owens was in a league of his own that night.

I remember going into Wrestlemania XX expecting Angle/Guerrero to be the new Savage/Steamboat, and I was pretty let down.
The Punk/Rock matches sucked.
Reigns/Ambrose at Survivor Series 2015 should've gone longer than 9 minutes.

I would say matches that where way better then I expected where,
Shane McMahon/Vince McMahon Hulk Hogan/Vince McMahon Big Show/Mark Henry Big Show/Sheamus
and matches that didn't live up to the hype and where let downs
John Cena/The Rock Seth Rollins/Dean Ambrose Sami Zayn/Kevin Owens Finn Balor/Kevin Owens Randy Orton/John Cena Randy Orton/Triple H Randy Orton/Batista Randy Orton/Daniel Bryan
you see a trend here,Orton is vastly overrated as a work and in reality has only like a dozen or so matches in his 14 year career that are good to great and only really had chemistry in the ring with just a few guys like Foley,Edge,Punk and Christian.

Does that include Wyatt vs Jericho in NXT and Wyatt vs Bryan at RR2014? The only Wyatt match I've ever been impressed with was because Daniel Bryan turned on him. The whole 'Wyatt' mystique 's a failure. He loses to the most random people and yet people still claim he's going to be the new Undertaker. The Undertaker actually mattered at this stage in his career. Wyatt just talks in circles and loses. Where's the worthwhile element of that? But, the thread is not a crap on Bray Wyatt thread. So another match better than expected - WM31 - Orton vs. Rollins and Brock vs. Reigns. Both were pretty enjoyable and were done quite well. The RKO Curb Stomp is still a cool spot. Worse than expected - Fastlane main event. Reigns won, predictable. He put down the 'indestructible' Dean Ambrose with a single spear. It just sucked.

Better. Benoit, Michaels, HHH WM20, Steamboat vs Jericho.
Worse. Goldberg vs Lesnar WM20, Nao & Kane vs The Shield WM30, HHH vs Shawn Michaels Hell in a Cell.

Cena vs Lashley at GAB 2007 was way better than I expected. That match was awesome.
