Until I need to have my license. My mom lets me drive to college with her everyday, but in a week or so, that's going to change. She is going under the knife for a hip replacement and I need to have my license. I can change lanes, merge on the freeway but cant back in to a parking spot or parallel park. I'm getting beyond nervous..

Driving is the worst, most stressful experience of my life. I hate it. I avoid it like the plague as much as I can.

Click-bait title. 4/10. Thought you were gonna say "to live" and give a depressing story.

Driving is easy. The worst part is taking the test cause you have to study.
TAKE THE WRITTEN EXAM. You can go back and change your answers, and sometimes the answers are in subsequent questions. The computer test is a one shot deal each time.

Driving isn't hard at all. You shouldnt feel nervous about it. I feel like if you cant master everything about driving, you shouldn't get a license.

I loathe parallel parking. Just find the make and model of your car, and try to find a YouTube video of someone parallel parking in it.
Parking in reverse sometimes seems more daunting than it actually is. With parallel parking you have a finite amount of space. Parking in reverse you have a lot more leeway.
The best advice I can give other than practice is to remember unless you're driving a freaking Rolls Royce, chances are the car's a lot smaller than you think. Even if it's on the big end like a minivan. I drive a Chevy Spark now, one hair larger than a Mini-Cooper. But I learned to drive on a '92 Buick. Those things are the behemoths of sedans. But once I realized that it was smaller than my anxiety made it out to be: no issues.
And most of all, just take your time, breathe and be patient. The on road supervisor, even if you're given a major bunghole, won't be a drill sergeant. You don't want to take five minutes to try to park, but a few seconds to gather your bearings and make sure you're positioned right will eventually become more than enough time. You'll understand once you nail it.

Depth perception is a MF
It tripped me out back when I first started driving but once you get use to the size of the car its no problem

I learned to drive in an 83 AMC Eagle. That bitch seemed like a tank. (Of course when you consider how much metal was in that versus today's cars...it probably was akin to a tank now that I think of it)...but anyway...one thing I learned about parallel parking is that you USUALLY have a lot more room than you think you do. Pull up close, pop it in reverse and swing it around and in. You'll get there.

Luckily, parallel parking wasn't a part of my driving test, as I suck at it. I passed the written test easily, but failed the driving test because I failed to keep both hands on the wheel at all times. Went back a week later and passed. Good luck!

I have 11 days till I've been clean and sober for 100 days.
Good luck dude. If you're already able to drive you should do fine.
Hope for the best for your mom too.

Oh, I know how tough the first year is. I passed the nine year mark this last February. I can promise you that when you (not if you) stick with it, it does get better. Keep your head up!

I have 11 days till I've been clean and sober for 100 days. good for you, buddy. Respect for the accomplishment. @op if the main thing you're struggling with is parking then I'd say you're in a pretty good position. Try not to put too much pressure on yourself, being nervous can really hurt your chances. It's the biggest reason why I failed mine a couple of times before finally nailing it. Good luck.

Get a driving instructor. I took 2 lessons and paid for them to accompany me to the road test. Cost me over $100 but I had everything down pat and passed my first try

There is no such thing as a Freeway in Illinois, they're called Tollways because you must pay a toll if you wish to use them. When ever I hear the word Freeway I know right away the person is from out west.

Just take the bus till you are ready. Take your time learning the basics and get comfortable driving. Study your safety stuff and pay good attention while you are driving. The fact you are nervous shows you care and that's a good thing. Way better than some bozo that's going to text and drive.
