Yesterday, Monday May 2nd, I went to Toys R Us in Chicago. The one on Western Ave. I walked up to the guest services counter to pay and I saw the new Disney Lego Minifigures. I reached to grab some and I was immediately informed they belonged to the employee behind the counter.
I thought it was very unprofessional to be buying things while your on the clock, I also thought it was unprofessional to purchase an entire case of a new item before the Customers get a crack at things.
I know we've mentioned the fellow who works at the store in Melrose Park a number of times, I guess we have another hoarder at this other store.
It's interesting because there was a discussion about employees who cherry pick on a different site and I learned that you can be fired for doing this kind of thing at Walmart. I also learned that when they hire you at walmart they ask if you have a hobby or if you collect anything. One person said they collected Hotwheels and per the person they said that Walmart then informs the employee they may not be found in the Hotwheel section of the store while on the clock.

If any of us worked at the store we'd likely do the same.

They could always call a buddy to come pick up the new figs when they come in, even if they personally don't stash them.

I worked at tru. We were told not to do that but half the employees collected something so it happened all the time. Stupid to put it in the open or the hold room though. Me and a few budies who worked in the back would just hide stuff behind boxes

If they asked if I collected anything I'd just lie. I'd do the same if I collected anything that was difficult to find. It's wrong, but thems the breaks. It's probably the only benefit of working a job like that. The only thing I'd do differently is I'd be much more discrete, and certainly wouldn't leave them visible. By leaving himself in a position where a customer can file a complaint that employee is just asking for trouble. He should've either hid them on a top shelf only accessible by ladder or bought them and took them to his car or put them in his pockets until he could take them to the car.

The only time I have ever purchased something while at work was when I found a 1 of 100 Ivory Hornswoggle. With my employee discount added, I only paid $9. I wound up selling it for $250.

But as you said, they shouldnt do it out in the open for the public to see.

What a dick, why buy something and jeep it on the shop floor that's just asking to get found out, that's not if one of your employees don't spill the beans first.
Also kinda sucks as a collector or buyer of anything really I remember Christmas one year when the Nintendo wii was popular TRU said they'd be getting in a shipment of "x amount" of wiis that'd go on sale the following day in stores only we went down 2 hours before open time and there were already people in the que plus people camped out from the night before, waiting for them to open, we got to the back of the que only for the store to open and be told they'd sold out. How does something g sell out from the time it's delivered and put on shop floor, when there's no online orders and the store is closed...

See, this happens at every retail store; pretty sure. Right or wrong, there's really nothing that can or will ever be done about it.

You do know people can call a store and have them hold a product? Even one that isn't going to be put on the sales floor until a certain date.

I didn't that that worked if you had to buy it in store, like you can't buy it online then you shouldn't be able to ring and reserve...

I don't know if it works everywhere but I was working at Walmart when the wii was released and we had people calling the day before asking to hold a system for them. We (the workers) were told that we had to do it if someone called.

Considering stores give employees discounts, they pretty much encourage them to buy things.

I used to work at TRU and I would hide figs in the back and buy them after my shift is over. The manager said we are allowed to buy things during our lunch or after our shift is over.
