I have some experience with this. I sold a lot of MOC LJN's because my wife wanted a conservatory, regretted it and had to re collect but loose.
When I started my MOC WWF Hasbro, and many other lines I never told my wife how much they cost, I think that's the key. He or She will not ask you to sell if they think there not worth much.
1000 figures later, prototypes etc never has my wife asked "How much was that" or "you could sell that" because as far as she knows, "it was $10". Play the game :-)

A real man's man doesn't let a skirt tell him what to do.

just to clarify, my wife hasn't asked me to sell, I'm thinking this myself, rather than wipe out my savings and possibly taking a loan should I sell up and then the majority of it would be paid for.
thinking it through, I still cant see me selling

Play the game :-) Ha ha - love this Ichiban - it's all about playing the game - or always use the 'investment' line I sold a stack of my rare 2ups / protos / testshots as I simply had to. Regret wise I have 2 it still pains me that I let go - Warlord 2up and Yellow Mask Warrior - on the same hand I know they went to great collections.

Like Judge, it still pains me as well, but I felt that I really had to let go of my collection of 8" LJN prototypes/store samples, because I was really getting in way too deep, and with my first little one on the way I had to make a decision. Otherwise I'd be compelled to keep adding to the collection. I guess I was addicted, and I can admit that I'm totally obsessed with the 8 inch LJN line- completely obsessed (love them). But at least they went to one of the best LJN collections out there, another one who admits to being totally obsessed. We went back and forth with offers, and I have to admit at one point I even had to make up a story why I had to back out of the sale with him. But in the end, it was never really about the sale price for me. I just wanted to make sure I got back what I had paid for them, nothing more - so he got a really good deal in my opinion. And had I not sold them, I would have ended up pulling the trigger on purchasing the alternate sculpt Heenan prototype figure with silicone mold for big $$, and would have no doubt shelled out some serious cash to ensure I won the recently discovered Albano and Sheik "hand sample" figures, and maybe the rubber Heenan with 9 scrolls. All told, that for sure would have set me back at least a few grand. I say, if you can afford to keep the collection, and you aren't seriously addicted to the point that you're spending too much while neglecting other "more important" things in life, by all means keep them. But if you do let them go you have to be prepared that there's a real chance that you may regret it for a long time. I still get my fix through sites like this and from looking at pics online, but nothing compares to holding your favorite collectibles in your hands up close. Last pic before mailing them out to new owner
