So I just got my E42 Neville from Amazon and after opening it up and inspecting it I noticed (rather quickly) that the upper thighs are casted in black and then painted flesh tone. Why?!? Is it that much more expensive to paint the knee pads in black? It can't be that much more complicated to paint the black since either way it's a line that's wrapped around. I'm quite annoyed by this and am now going to have to swap the thighs out. Any thoughts on what Mattel's thought process was in this? The picture actually makes the skin tone match look better than it is in person.

It's definitely cheapening out. Anything to save a few bucks, I guess. Add this to the list of reasons I only buy basics now.

Don't look at Jimmy Hart or Paul Bearer's hands, or Daniel Bryan's face, or the countless other figures that utilize this technique.

But those don't bother me as much since it's not "skin to skin" contact. The hands are broken up by the jacket and the beard and hair breaks up Daniel Bryan. I understand those reasonings a lot more than this.

I thought so from looking at Ringside's pictures.

I dislike this very much, I am a loose collector and have to store most in tubs, even bagging them the paint sometimes rubs, so these types of things make me pass on figures.

The answer is a production issue. Certain parts are cast together in molds as they are (usually) the same or similar color. In many cases there is no problem, but on occasion, a part will end up on a tree as a cost cutting measure. Mattel is not the only company who does this (as any Marvel Legends fan can attest), and while it is annoying, it's really so that they can afford more detailed deco elsewhere on the figure.

For some reason Finn Balor's arms are cast in flesh tone and painted black too. And on his first basic it was a nice sort of Matte black finish that I didn't even notice was paint until I tried to remove a scuff mark and the black paint came off, but his second basic they are a sort of gloss black that you can literally scratch off with your fingernail

They have been casting things in the dominant color. With DB his hair and beard were the dominant color so it was cast in the hair color and they painted the face. (Something they said they would neverdo) so if Neville's legs are predominantly black that is why it was cast in black. If not I have no clue to why.

To be fair, it is just a Neville figure.

To be fair, it is just a Neville figure. It's not which figure it is. It's about seemingly pointless decisions that detract from the overall look and atheistic of the figure. I think I just look at figures like Demolition who are so intricate (they're heads were casted in skin tone BTW) and were possibly made for less money (speculation due to the price they were sold for originally) and can't help but fell that the production decisions being made are pure laziness. Granted I've never produced a figure and have no clue want goes into the choices that are made but it's just my two cents. And make no mistake, I still love Mattel's WWE line and will continue to support it. I just thought I would point out something that really stands out as a flaw in my book.

Mattel is not the only company that does this, nor is the WWE line the only one that has figures in it that are produced in this manner.

Does Neville have ball jointed hips like E37 Malenko?
E42 is just a mess from the thighs down.

I like the fact his basic figures got a unique kickpad mold, but his elite gets the regular ones painted. I guess it wasn't money wise to make a new part for one figure.

its extra dumb....because if some black knee pad paint rubs off...i can fix that w/ black paint.
If u scratch some skin tone paint off...u screwed...unless u a customizer bob ross dude that wants to mix a bunch of joann fabrics paints up to try and get the color correct

Why does that bother people?
I have no problem with bryans painted face and this couldnt bother me any less.
Could imagine theres a reason why they do this.
Companys take cost cutting measures to keep profits up, which in turn affect prices.
