IS this gastric bypass? What does the procedure entail? I know a girl that got Gastric.. she has lost a ton of weight.. had a few complications though... Had to ease back into foods she ate..cant eat certain stuff because it is too heavy.. but.. all and all shes good.

What I'm aiming for is called a gastric sleeve -- basically it's "half" of a gastric bypass, but it's not reversible like other forms of bariatric surgery. Yeah, I hear even people who find great success have problems. Trying to make a comprehensive list of those problems and how to avoid them BEFORE I have the surgery done. At least if I do that, I can say I did everything possible. |

I have the opposite problem. Eating is a chore to me, so I just eat to satisfy my body but I don't eat anything healthy because I just don't care about food.
My brother in law had the surgery and it worked for him

I had an aunt who got this done. It worked out for her but she replaced all her food with alcohol so she kinda gained some of the weight back.

I have the opposite problem. Eating is a chore to me, so I just eat to satisfy my body but I don't eat anything healthy because I just don't care about food. My brother in law had the surgery and it worked for him I know a few people along that same line of thinking. And hey, if it works for you, and doesn't affect ya, I say -- you lucky sumb***h. |

I've found quite a few people doing research that say they "failed" their surgery, because they started drinking heavily and put weight back on. When you have the surgery done, it takes one, MAYBE two drinks to be "drunk" so -- those of us that are like "f*** it, I'll have another!" can end up becoming alcoholic post-surgery, because it went from "man, I had a few too many last night" to your body not processing "too much is too much" |

Same here dude, stopped drinking in November a little past 200 days without drinking. Gave up another 'habit' at the beginning of the year, nearly 170 days clean. A lot better off without either too. |

My dad had gastric bypass four years ago and the pros definitely outweigh the cons. He's lost over 130lbs, has control over his diabetes, not cured because that's not possible, but he doesn't have to take nearly as much medicine as he did before. He's healthier and has more energy. The only con is that he can't eat some things, and can't eat as much, a small sacrifice but it's worth it.
It is a process however and best of luck to you.

My wife got a lap band. It's easily reversed, way less evasive than most of the other surgeries.
All of them require you to still change your life style. Eating habbits, what you eat, when you eat, how much you eat ect...
My wife can eat no more than a half a cup to a cup of food at a time. Some foods she had to give up becuase they get stuck. Bubbly stuff got mostly cut out. Pop/beer/ciders. Overly dry foods aren't good. She loves bread and pasta, she had to cut back on it. They just take up food. She needs to eat more protein first then fruits /veggies. Then if she can , some bread or carbs.
It did wonders for her. She lost nearly half her body weight in a few years, made her healthier. But had a few draw backs. He his and back arthritis seem to bother her more. As if the lack of weight holding her down gave it the ability to flair up more often.

I've been heavy my whole life. Back in October 2015, I had a scare that made me determined to take the pounds off. I weighed in at 253lbs in the doctor's office.
Today, I'm in the 180's. I went from a 44 to a 34. My mind has yet to catch up with my body as far as being aware that I'm thinner, but man... the energy I have. I didn't do the surgery, but it was in my head for a bit. In any event dude, I wish you the absolute best.
If you need an ear, anytime, drop me a line. I don't post terribly often, but I'm on daily.

I watched my wife struggle for 5 years. Changinger eating habits, excersize you name it. And she wouldn't lose more than 10-15 lbs. $10k later and still having a ton of dedication and living a different life style. She's half the woman she was.... Belittling someone for making themselves better is terrible. Especially if they've taken it upon themselves to do it...... it's like making fun of the fat guy at the gym. |
